I'm recently engaged (just a week!) and right now we haven't started any planning. I've just been exploring different options, and I read in one of my magazines that a new trend is getting away from the traditional sit-down dinner at weddings and having a 'cocktail style wedding reception' with mini-plates and 'heavy' hors de oeuvres. I would love to learn more about this! How does it work, and are there venues who have this option? Thanks!

Re: Cocktail Wedding Reception
Hi and Congratulations!
They call it 'Mansion Style' too. The stations are set in different rooms and changed through the night, guests wander and graze, mix and mingle...
It's very different than most guests are used to. Personally I like it.
Wishing you happy planning, the wedding of your dreams, and a marriage that inspires all who know you to believe in the promise of forever.

Re: Cocktail Wedding Reception
In September, we're actually doing two of this type of 'cocktail only' receptions in different NYC lofts. The bride ends up renting furniture (couches, end tables etc.) in addition to the standard cocktail high boys and low boy tables. It can create a 'night club' type feel and tends to be very congenial and relaxed. Often a few 'standard' tables are reserved for the immediate family and bridal party. Flower wise, it is a big savings on centerpieces, and more emphasis is placed on side table and end table/cocktail table arrangements.
Good luck, Lynn from Florisan

Re: Cocktail Wedding Reception
Dear Future Bride, I just provided the music for a Mansion Style reception this past weekend. It is very different from a Cocktail Style reception. Please feel free to contact me - I will be happy to let you know the differences in the Mansion vs Cocktail reception. Many locations are now offering these options.
