Well wahoo for your mom and her partner! Please do wish them my congratulations.

I have done many commitment ceremonies. There is even a page on my website with samples.

http://www.churchofancientways.org/commitment.html

Here is a link is to the website of The City Clerk's Office.

http://www.nycmarriagebureau.com/about/domesticpartnership.html

It defines domestic partnership and gives the details on how to get one if they live or work in NYC.

In October of 2006 Suffolk County began a county wide registry. For more information
call 631-852-2000

Nassau County is not as together on the same page as the rest of the Island. But North Hempstead, does have a registry ($35 fee. No benefits. Both same-and opposite-sex couples. Must cohabit, be 18, unmarried, at least one must be a North Hempstead resident or employee, and they must swear they are in a committed relationship)

Several villages in the town of North Hempstead have set up the registries as well. They are: Great Neck,Great Neck Plaza, North Hills, Rolsyn]

This should be enough to get them started on the kinds of things they should be thinking about. The rest of it will be the same stuff all of you girls think about....

Who goes at what table?
Did you like that last DJ we saw?
Which portfolio did you like?
Is that really a good deal?
Do I have to make programs LOL!

The other good thing is if they have someone who is good at public speaking they don't even need to hire an officiant. Not that I'm trying to put myself out of work but with no license to sign and enough on my website to find something that fits, it is on their list of options to have a friend do it. The only down side is that non professionals don't understand the big picture and how everything fits together to flow smoothly.

Please tell your mom to contact me any time if she has any questions or would like to schedule an appointment.

Yay! Then they can register!

It doesn't give you the full benefits of a marriage contract but it is some degree of protection under the law.
