Destination Weddings

I just recently became engaged. I am overwhelmed right now because I am not sure where to start.
We have been pricing some receptions halls on LI. Of course we would like to keep the wedding cheap but without it appearing cheap. We have always loved the thought of a destination wedding. Is this a good way to go? Are there affordable packages out there? Any info would help.
