We are a UK couple wanting to get married in NYC this July / August in Central Park or somewhere similar as part of our summer vacation. We would really like an informal ceremony with some photographs.
Can anyone help with suggestions on how we start to organise this? Thanks

Congratulations!
Manhattan is just wonderful these days. Central Park is one of my favorite locations. If you are less than 20 people then you don't need a permit. There is a great castle called Belvedere Castle that you can marry in front of but not inside. There is the Shakespeare Garden (there's a picture from there on my website) Bow Bridge is nice, the 'Lady's Pavilion' is a small Victorian structure just past Hernshead with a nice view, then there's a huge fountain by the Boathouse restaurant which is also very cool. Most folks take their first day in to get the license and then wander till they find just the right spot for them.
But then again, how can the view from the Empire State Building be surpassed? Their website http://www.esbnyc.com says that they don't host weddings any more but one of my Brides told me that they told her it's ok to just go ahead and do it on the observation deck as long as everyone has a ticket. I'll be there with them on the 16th of April with her and her fiance. If you want more details I can let you know how it went.
