HM in New Orleans in February info

Hi! We were considering going to Aruba for our honeymoon and stopping in New Orleans on the way down for a couple days. We were hoping that since we are getting Married Feb 5, 2005 and would plan to leave for HM on Feb 7, that we might make Mardi Gras and Carnival. Does anyone know the dates that these events would start in 2005? I also heard that it's very hard to get a hotel, even years in advance, for Mardi Gras. Any suggestions on where we might find something nice and not break the bank?
