JAM Bands?

JAM Bands?

We're going to have a lot of people at our wedding that go to a lot of 'Jam Band' shows -
I'm going to want a real flexible band that can learn new songs and use jam band techniques like 'teasers' of other songs as well as some familiarity with some modern Jazz like MMW as well as Phish, Dead, moe, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson.....

As well as early hip hop...

As well as 80's rock - Duran Duran...

All mixed in with the Wedding standards and Old time Dance tunes for the older folk....

I'll really want to work on a 'Set list'... I play bass and there will be a number of musicians on hand expecting more than 'So Many Men... So little Time'

Not sure if the regular Wedding band circuit will even want to take me on - But, I'm willing to listen.

Hey Steph&Steve

We might be what you're looking for.

We can jam all night with all the groove you could want. We're big fans of MMW especially, also The Bad Plus, the White Stripes, etc., yet we still do jazz standards and even bossas if you want.

We're not a wedding band per se, we're a band that plays weddings, charity and corporate events when we find people who like our sound and would like to have it at their special event.

For this reason, and because our rates are really good, we cannot accommodate long intricate detailed instructions/requests. For that I do encourage people to consult a real wedding band or entertainment company, because they are the experts at meeting detailed requests.

Also -- we are not a cover band, so nobody comes away from hearing us saying that we sounded 'exactly like the record.' So even if we cover a well-known song, it's going to sound different when we're done with it.

You can check us out at our website, www.nationalboulevard.com.

Also, since you have more than a year until your Wedding Day, if you want to see and hear us live, we perform around NYC at least once a month, most months. Our performance at the Gesture Jam (see website for details) will be 100% jam band as we interact musically with the models and dancers.

Hey Karla - Thanks for the response!!!!!

Would you guys 'Run' the wedding as well - Introductions etc... I know I'm going to have to compromise a bunch...

Didn't mean to scare off the others..

I know we're going to have to have the regular wedding stuff that makes people dance -

I'd love to go see you guys!!!

I'm going to see a guy I know who's in a Funk band on LI tonight to ask him for advice - He plays for one of the big wedding circuit bands on LI.....

Re: JAM Bands?

Definitely check out your friends' band ideas.

Real wedding bands are experts at introductions, all those special dances for mothers/fathers, the bouquet toss, the garter thing, etc. etc. etc. We do not do any of that. Once I announced 'Presenting Mr. And Mrs..' but I'd rather not do that, either! I'm not good at things like that.

It might be tough to find the kind of music you're looking for together with the traditional Long Island wedding protocol.

Have you considered a really good DJ, with a great sound system and a magnificent stack of CDs? DJ's also do party favors and work the room. Then you really could have every song you want.

We post our gigs on the 'showcase' listing on this board so if you watch that, you can see when we're out and about.
