my wedding is over but have a question for photographers
is it possible and how good will it look to digitally alter photos to make eyes that are closed or squinting open up? Also, how well do photos come out if they are 'taken' off the video footage? Obviously i am having these problems and my photographer is offering these as solutions and i am wondering if i should let him try or just get my money back for all the problems i have had already and bring my proofs somewhere else. Please help! THANKS.

Let them try and compensate or try and correct the problem by offering other solutions first, that's a good start. If it does not satisfy the expectations you have, then perhaps you can arrange another means for compensation like extra prints or special effects. As far as digital retouching, you can achieve some amazing results with some situations. Wait and see the results, maybe bring a friend who is unaware of the retouching and see if they notice anything different or unusual. It also depends who is squinting, the Bride, Groom, or a relative or Bridal member, usually we focus our attention to the Bride first and then everything else after. Finally, with regards to Video images...it is possible, but not the best means. How about any one else who got the shot with 35mm film? That would be another option. Hope this helps, good luck.

Re: my wedding is over but have a question for photographers
all of the above - well said
there also is the seemingly outdated option of airbrushing. Opening eyes is not all that difficult (believe it or not!)
also ...... if the 'video' is digital (as it most often is these days) then it is MUCH easier than from VHS. It's already an image that can be printed right from the disc.
Good luck! Let them try and see what you get and THEN go to any next steps.

Re: my wedding is over but have a question for photographers
thanks for your input - i am now waiting for UPS to find the thank you pictures the studio sent (if not they have to do them again). I guess i will have bad luck all around regarding these photos! Thanks again.
Also, as a follow-up and maybe to help some other girls... does the bride have to specifically tell the photographer what photos they want or if you ask for 'traditional' pictures can it be expected that there would be pictures of the person doing the reading at church, the intrumentalist at church, the candle lighting, our rings, etc?? Aren't the photographers the experts and unless it is something specific or unusual don't they take pictures that would include the important events of the day?

Re: my wedding is over but have a question for photographers
yes, of course
normally you expect all the main events and people to be covered
I generally ask to alert me if anyone that I wouldn't normally think of (aunts, uncles, college friends, etc) should be in a picture.

Regarding taking 'frame grabs' from digital video....the photos are only at a resolution of 720 x 480 pixels, meaning about 0.35 Megapixels...this will only get you a decent looking wallet size print, and maybe a 4x6 if you don't mind a little pixelation.
