name changing
My wife's last name is Brett + my last name is Kauffman. Our kids were Brett-Kauffman. A bit unwieldly, and people were always getting it wrong (I'm not sure why. Seems clear and obvious.) Anyway, my kids decided to drop the Kauffman and stay with Brett to simply make life easier. (My wife is upset because she chose Mia and David to go with Brett-Kauffman. She would have chosen different first names to go with Brett.) I'm considering changing my name to Mark Brett. Sounds fine, but I have the business name to deal with. I'm currently using my middle initial of B. as a transition (when I remember.) Personally, one big objection that I have to changing my name is that then people would think that my wife changed HER name, and that would be horrible! Eek! I really don't want to be married to a woman who would change her name, so even the thought that people would think that is bothering me (even tho it wouldn't be true! Eek!)
Anyway, the best solution i know of is adopting a whole new name for a new family. A few of my customers have done that (and it's popular in the Hispanic culture.) I really think that's the best solution.
