I don't believe that the price you were quoted is necessarily 'over the top' (and I'm sure you'll receive offers at lower rates). These days it is very difficult to say what is 'average' because of the different nuances of service that we all provide.

You can probably pay whatever you want for a DJ (I hear of rates ranging from $600 to $3,000+). The question will always be... will you be happy with your choice after the fact?

General rule #1... Beware the quotes that seem very low because there is probably a good reason why they are low in the first place... you may be sorry later.

General rule#2... Although you often get what you pay for, that is not always the case.

General rule #3... Athough other peoples opinions may be helpful, remember to make decisions based on your personal experiences only.

General rule #4... If in doubt, comparison shop to the extent that you feel necessary. I think you will discover very quickly what is reasonable and what is not. Do remember to compare 'apples to apples' and don't just ask for a $ figure... ask what you will get for the $. For example I don't know if your quote of $1,800 is reasonable because I don't know how the services will be provided from the moment of booking to the actual performance at your reception. We all play music and provide mc services... but... we do it in very different ways!

The bottom line... if you feel the price is reasonable relative to the service you expect to receive then go for it!

Best wishes...

Hello there. My name is Rosalie and I am the Event Coordinator for Expressions Floral and Event Design. I just wanted to let you know that High Voltage Sound are a wonderful group of performers. I have used Vinny in the past and matter of fact I have also booked him once again for a corporate christmas party again this year! He will be playing to a group of almost 500 people. He pleased them so much last year, that I was asked that I rehire him again this year! They are the best!

Good Luck

Re: need a dj

Jamie,

Very rough call to make not knowing any other info. What exact services will you be recieving ? As a general rule 1,800 would not be over the top by any means for Professional DJ & Entertainment services, dependant of course on the company you choose and the services you recieve.

As an average, our clients are usually prepared to spend between 1,500 - 5,000 on their entertainment packages. Of course many of the more high-end options we offer are not often seen in the traditional 'dj' market, and of course are in a higher price bracket. Remember no two companies are created equal, and the more requested your MC, the more exclusive the company , and the price.

It allll depends! Hope this helped you !

Re: need a dj

Hi Jaimie,

This is Gina from In The Mix DJs.

Every DJ company should be able to work within your budget, give or take a little. If you are happy with the company that quoted you $1800, search around a little, see what other companies quote you. This is the only true way to find out what average prices are.
Always go with the company you feel comfortable with, and remember what other vendors have already told you, you usually get what you pay for...so be careful!
If you have any questions feel free to call!
