During a recent visit to a limo company, they informed my FH and I that there exists a law that to maintain a Livery status on your insurance/license plate you are only allowed to carry 14 passengers plus a driver. In other words the 22-24 passenger SUVs are supposed to have bus status on your insurance/license plate, and if not, you run the risk of being pulled over on the day of and having your vehicle impounded if you are over this passenger amount. They said it exists on the books now, but they are going to more strictly enforce it in the near future. Is this true?

Re: New Limo Law
Thanks, Rob. I guess if the company has a properly licensed driver for the SUVs I won't have to worry about this, right?

Re: New Limo Law
As previously said a law took effect Aug. 1 in NYC & is very vague. First there is two agencies in NYC, Taxi & Limousine & Department Of Transportation of NYC. They are not sure how they plan to implement the law. In Suffolk & Nassau County the Dept Of Transportation have no problem with these vehicles being on the road. Some vendors are trying to register the suv under bus license plates which would overide any law in NYC. Your only taking a chance if you are in NYC & DOT that wants to enforce it. {very poor communication with both depts}. The case of insurance each vehicle is registered & insured. NYC needs money & this is another way to write more tickets. Hope this helps Charlie Gandolfo.
