Photographers on Overtime

Photographers on Overtime

If say I tell my photographer to be I want him/her to arrive at my house at 3:00 pm to begin taking pictures and I want him till the end of the reception which is 12:30, we are looking at 9 1/2 hours of photography.

What is the average cut off time frame that a photographer begins charging overtime. And would you waive the overtime charge as part of the contract.
Thanks

Most weddings DO average 8-10 hours, so you would be within the 'norm.' What I normally do is ask that you be considerate with gratuity for time over 8 hours.

Our studio does a 9 1/2 hour day. That is usually sufficient for most weddings. The only time that overtime would come into play is when you exceed that time limit. And the only time a couple really exceeds the 9 1/2 hours is when they have a lag of 3 or 4 hours inbetween their ceremony and reception. We recently booked a wedding where the couple are having a simple ceremony at 1:00 p.m. and it will not go beyond 2:00 p.m. However, their reception only starts at 7:00 p.m so as you can see there is a big time frame. We told her we could either do the portaits right after the ceremony or leave her, go home, and meet her later say an hour before the reception/cocktail hour begins to do photos at the beach or park. She could pay for us to stay with her, but why should she that would be a waste of her money and she doesn't need us for all that time. I would rather see her go to where her parents were with the relatives and relax and hang out. But every studio does things differently. Hope this helps.

Thanks to you both for your respnses.

I just started wondering if I was the 'norm' category. And I do fall under that so I am more at ease now.
Thanks again!
