Hi all - We have been looking at photographers and they have ranged from 5K for photography and video to $3675 for the same. The diffferences are of course, artistry, types of photos (sepia, B&W etc). The 5K place seemed really nice and the $3675 (this price inc invitations too!!!!!) seemed rather sketchy, but we are on a seriously tight bidget. Can anyone tell me what I SHOULD be paying for good quality photogrpahy work? We would want a 30 pic 10x10 album, 2 parents albums (5x7 is fine), at least 1 8x10, a couple of 5x7's and maybe a 16x20. Can anyone help us out? Thanks

Hi Rachel,

I can understand your concerns in searching for vendors...you shouldn’t book with anyone that you might think is 'sketchy'. I would look into all their credentials, including seeing their equipment and calling the Better Business Bureau. You don't always necessarily have to pay more money to get good quality.
As far as video, I think that a reasonable price would be $1300 and up (depending on what you are looking for in a video)Second camera packages should obviously run a bit more. When visiting a Video Company, ask to see their most recent work (not a sample video) and that should give you a pretty good idea if they are up to speed with technology, therefor offering good quality footage and editing.

If you have any other question or would like some information on our company, give me a call at 631-224-3500 or e-mail me at [email protected].

Hope this helps!

Stacy,

I don't want to use this site for self promotion, so I'll advise you the same way that Stacy did. Realize that there are many variations to look for, but the bottom line is how thrilled you'll still be with the product 20 years from now. So all I can say is to look at as many as you can until you really feel moved by the product, the presentation and the personalities that you'll be dealing with.

Good luck!

Re: Photography

Hi,

I can't say what the price you will be paying would, should or could be.

It all depends on many factors.
I am not a photographer, but...... when searching for any vendor, I would check them out, meet with them, ask several questions, see THEIR work,
look at the equipment they use, ask for refrences,
feel comfortable with each and every vendor you choose, especially, your photographer & videographer. These people will be with you most of your day.

Every photographer and/or videographer has a certain style. It's their signature!
You just have to find the one that fits for you!

When I see something I like, I purchase it.
It can be a lot more than I intended to spend, but I want it! So....I buy it!

Good Luck! It can get confusing after a while!!

Defintitely look at the photographers latest work, not just the thousands of samples also. Most of our finished albums are from 100-200 photos. That's not just financial, but an indication of how important photography is to the bride and groom and how satisfied they were with the finsihed product and service they received. Check out statement #2 on the vendor ratings on this website under photos of the heart. And yet we are talking about the same money.... Also...if your bride and groom album is 10 x 10 then your parent albums should be 8x 8 (only if your album is 8 x 10 should the parent albums be 5 x 7) The reason for this is when doing the photography, the photographer should be designing the composition and format of your finished photographs as he or she shoots. If you shot good 10 x 10s, then the 5 x 7s many times would look 'cut-off' where they shouldn't be. This is a photographic things, not a financial one.
Congratulations on your wedding plans !!!

Re: Photography

There are so many factors that go into the pricing of a photographer. The type of albums he chooses to use, whether he has an individual printing all of the prints or uses a lab, whether his studio is in a store front or a home, the amount of equipment, salaries, schooling, etc. etc. All of this though really shouldn't factor into your decision as to who to use. You should set up a budget and then see as many photographers as you can that fit that budget. After viewing as much work as possible within that budget, see if the work is striking a feeling inside of you both. If you find work that you absolutely love and feel is just what you have been looking for, than as Marie says go for it, don't hesitate for fear of losing it and having to start all over. If, however, you aren't seeing anything that is what you have your heart set on, then you may have to rethink your budget a little. Often times you hear you get what you pay for, and it has been my personal experience, that most times, not all, this seems to hold true. If I was searching for my son or daughter's photographer, that is the way I would approach it. You'll know when you have hit just the right one! The best of luck to you.
