I live in Orlando and am planning a Long Island wedding. Long Island was my home for 20 years and there is no place I would rather be on my wedding day. I would appreciate any tips/advice/recommendations as I need all the assistance I can get. I am planning for a 2005 wedding so I have time to work with. Thanks.

Re: Planning LI Wedding from FL
Dear Flower1017:
When I read your post I found it funny that we are going to my cousin's wedding this October 5th just outside the Orlando area. The couple was originally from Long Island and now live in the Longwood/Altamonte Springs area. They are having their wedding I think at the Heathrow Country Club, and I have been helping my cousin coordinate things for her wedding from up here.
Even though you have some time, just following these boards (brides&vendors), you will get good ideas and accurate information regarding places, entertainment, flowers, etc. to help narrow down your decisions.
Once you're ready to begin your 'journey,' I would advise you to get your date for the church (if necessary), than select the location for the reception. After that's done, everything else can fall into place.
Good luck, and if you need help/suggestions, just post and myself and all these vendors will be happy to assist you, as well as the brides on their board!

I'd recommend that you start with your date, deciding upon one and reserving your venue. From there you can move on to your other wedding vendors. Many brides have planned wonderful events from a distance with the help of boards such as these. Good luck!

Flower,
Well you've come to the right place. You will find that this site and the internet in general will really help you in your planning. You have plenty of time, but there is no time like the present. I agree with Michael in that the date and location are going to be the two determinant factors in future planning. Also, being that you will be doing a lot of planning from a distance, you perhaps want to give greater consideration to vendors with web sites that you find professional and up to date,as well as those which allow for easy transfer of information via the web , wether forms, monetary deposits, e-mails etc.
Well happy planning to you , and of course congratulations to you and your husband to be!

Welcome to the wonderful world of planning your wedding! Congratulations on this exciting time in your life. Being that you already found liweddings.com, you're already on the right path. The brides and the vendors are a great source of information here and will be happy to help you in anyway they can. From what I recall when I did my own wedding, a lot of the catering halls actually offer a video tape that shows you the grounds, etc... You might want to try that route when it comes time to look for a place. My 1st suggestion would be to book the place for the ceremony and reception, and then go from there. I'll also be sending you a forum mail which will give you the names of other good LI resources. Best of luck in the start of your planning. --Laura, LA Productions (631)473-0271 or [email protected]

You can get information from every vendor on this site, that would be a great start. From there you can check out each vendors website and find out what they have to offer. Once you can make a decision on a hall, they will be also give you a list of vendors that they refer to their brides as well. I know it will be an interesting journey planning a wedding from another state! We have had many brides with your situation, they have sent friends and family on appointments once they have narrowed down what they were looking for. I'm not sure if you have that flexibilty, but, it might not be a bad idea once you get closer to your date. Good luck! Let me know if I can help you with anything else!
