A booked a vendor..and then not 24 hours later cancelled. The credit card had not even been charged yet. However, this vendor is going to charge me a $35 cancellation fee. Is there any way I can get out of that fee? I know its not that much money...it just seems like its rediculous to pay when they did not even do anything.

Re: Question about contracts
Sounds a bit sketchy on the part of the vendor. I'm not sure, but I do think that legally you have some time to cancel such an agreement without being penalized.

Re: Question about contracts
Hi DLWDLG,
I believe you have three days to back out of a contract. Read your contract - does anything state in there that they can charge you this $35.00 to cancel. If not, I would call the credit card company and maybe dispute the charge. Hope this helps.
Good Luck

Re: Question about contracts
It is a law in New York State that you have 48 hours to cancel any contract without any penalty. Contact New York State Attorney General Elliot Spitzer (phone number in the government section of the phone book). They will send you a copy of the law in writing. You can also register your complaint with them-they will also follow up for you. Re: Question about contracts
Just wanted to let you guys know, that they eventually gave me my money back. But not before I threatened to take them to small claims court AND they are a vendor on this site, so I told them that I would let all the brides know how they treated me. The man then started screaming at me, calling me arrogant and screaming at me some more. Verry bad businessman in my opinion. If they treat customers like this often, I don't know how they are still in busisness. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you guys for your advice both here on the board, and for those that also sent me FM.

Bravo! You stood up to that kind of nonsense. I trust, you'll find the vast majority of LIWEDDING vendors to be more professional and helpful. ...Des ======================= Burke Entertainment 631-286-4168 [email protected]

Re: Question about contracts
Hooray for you!
You were absolutely right and he was absolutely wrong! What type of attitude is that to have with a customer. Unfortunately, there are some businesses out there that are not very respectful.
In my opinion my customer service is everything - without that how do you expect to stay in business. Besides I treat people how I would expect to be treated - guess it's that old golden rule thing.
I am a firm believer what goes around comes around
