Yes, i know i was married this weekend, but I am encountering a small debate and need some professional musicians opinions please. I would really appreciate it.
If I hired a violin, viola, flute, cello, and a trumpet, and my recessional song was Trumpet Voluntary, which instruments would play the song?
I really appreciate what your business would do if I had hired you.
Thank you so much.

Re: Question for musicians during ceremony
All the instruments would play the recessional. It can be orchestrated for all the instruments you mentioned with no problem. If you hired all the instruments you mentioned-they should all play the music. Re: Question for musicians during ceremony
Hi
Congratulations on your wedding!
If they had the standard score that E Power Biggs has out (he is a very famous organist) for 'Trumpet Voluntary' and did not use an arranged version then yes, they all could have played the piece as follows:
Trumpet on the solo Flute on upper part of organ line Violin on 2nd inner line of same Viola on 3rd of same Cello on the bass line. They could have written out the parts to be as clear for themselves (individual parts for each player) from the organ score, as possible.
This is that we worked from with (instead of the flute we had a first violinist and there were 5 musicians including our trumpeter) when we recorded it and have a sample on our website of Trumpet and String Quartet.
There is a book that has an arrangement of this piece which many ceremony companies use. If this is the version they used, then the violinist may have been left out if he/she cannot read viola clef, as that is the part he/she would have had to play if this was the version which they had worked from.
I hope it helps and I hope that they played wonderfully for you on your special day
I applaud your choice of music for your ceremony - it must have sounded great!
I agree with what everyone has posted here. There is no reason that everyone you hired should not be playing the recessional. It can be tempting to use a quartet arrangement for the quintet you described, and have one person lay out, but I don't think that's the right solution. When we play the Tpt Voluntary, there are a few measures when the trumpet rests and the flute takes over the melody, just for a change of texture, but everyone you're paying should be playing!
