RD opinions

I grew up on Fire Island and the great south bay (probably like many of you) I then lived and worked at Fire Island all through high school and college. I was thinking that it might be great to have my rehersal dinner there on the beach. The wedding is in St. James and all of our out of town guests (there are a lot of of friends from FL coming up for the wedding) are staying in Stony Brook. Do you think taking a ferry out of sayville or bayshore is too far? Or how about a party boat? Also, do you think this would be to stressful of a plan for the night before the wedding?

Re: RD opinions

Hi Debbie. I think it's a lovely idea, but you may be right about too much added stress. It really would depend on what time you are having the rehearsal at the church. If it's early enough, go for it. Just keep your out-of-town guests in mind, (especially if you're talking about having any elderly folks there) they may be tired from their travels, and it may be easier on them if you had the RD at a closer location. There certainly are excellent places for a RD in the Stony Brook/St. James area. Let me know if you need any suggestions, or help with anything else. Good luck to you.

I agree with Laura--too much extra planning will most likely result in added stress for you as you focus on the big day. If your family is staying in the Stony Brook area, you may want to check out the Three Village Inn for the dinner-it's right across the street from the water.

Good Luck!

Hi Debbie, Here's a handful of places in relatively close proximity to the Stony Brook/St. James area:
Stony Brook: Three Village Inn...Country House
St. James: Mirabelle (french)
Setauket: Mario's...Metropolis...
Pt. Jeff: Pasta Pasta...Carnival Restaurant (good zagat review)...The Printer's Devil...Docksiders...

Hope this helps! Laura, LA Productions

Dear Debbie,
Definitely try to avoid adding any new stresses or glitches. The idea sounds great on paper but go by 'Murphy's Law' - if it could possibly go wrong it will.
The last thing you need is night before is problems.
Go with the suggestions of locations from the above post. Three Village Inn sounds the best. They have several private rooms on one side of the building for
rehearsal dinner parties. Check out the Hallock and Jonas Smith rooms. Ask for Dan Laffitte General Manager or Angelo -banquet manager .It will definitely be less stressful for you and make the wedding day more relaxed.
