song to walk down the aisle to?

I originally posted this on the BHB board. I want to know professional's opinions also. What do you think?

I have a few questions about this.

My mother and father are both walking me down the aisle. Both of them (including me) want to walk down the aisle to 'Only Time' by Enya. We all love the song and my mother cries every time she hears it now! Well, we have hired a string ensamble to play during the ceremony and coctail hour. They play mainly classical music and said that they will try to accommodate requests. When I asked them if they could play the song they want, they said 'doubt it'. Well, I really wanted this song and now are considering having it played on a CD. It would be only during the bridal party/bride procession that a CD is played. Do you think:

a) it's cheesy or ok
b) a waste of $ to do this
c) would you do the same

and finally:

d) what are you walking down to and who is playing it?

Thanks for your input. I have to make a decision soon!

Dear Kelly,
There is no reason the string quartet cannot perform the song.It seems they just do not want to bother.I would also be very concerned with any reply such as 'doubt it' -that kind of statement says very little of or indicates lack of any degree of professionalism. On Saturday August 10, 2002 the Essex Chamber Ensemble String Quartet from my office performed several of Enya's songs at Cure Of Ars Church in Merrick for a wedding Mass. It can definitely be done. I would strongly suggest speaking to them again. You should not settle on any aspect of your wedding. If you want them to play the song by Enya it can be done.

Hi Kelly4,

I think you should play the CD.
If they can't play Enya, then they should be able to play an instrumental leading up to where the CD starts for a smooth transition. Then when the song is over, they should pick up from there with another smooth transition.

I would ask them to allow me to hear what it would sound like also. This way you are not shocked the day of your wedding.

Try asking them to do that. And why can't they play Enya?? I would walk down the aisle to Enya as you and your family have planned and prepared for.

Good Luck,
Marie

No matter who plays the song, Enya is not easy. It will not sound the exact same as the CD version which has tons of production behind it.
I think they are unwilling to learn something new. Call Stan's people. That is crazy.
