Steel Drum Band

Dear Liz,
The steel drum performers from my office are the authentic musicians from Trinidad. You can see them at www.stanwiest.com/steel_drums.htm
For a cocktail hour all you need is two steel drum performers
plus a rhythm computer for the sound of the regular drums. You always need regular drums with a steel drum band. You have to have two performers -one is not enough and sounds empty. By using the rhythm computer it saves you the cost of the third musician. You can always add performers. The band is available up to 6 pieces. For a cocktail hour up to 200 guests two performers is plenty. They have performed for former New Jersey Governor Christie Whitman . They just won the Steel Drum Competition held in Manhattan two weeks ago. They constantly perform for my office at The Fox Hollow, Chateau Briand,Westbury Manor,John Anthony's, Harbor Club,Jericho Terrace as well as for the Lessings locations Timber Point Country Club,Coindre Hall and the Bourne Mansion. The biggest problem with steel drum performers is they have a tendency to show up late -or not at all.I have heard many horror stories of steel drum bands showing up halfway through a cocktail hour or not at all. The steel drum performers from my office have been performing for me for over 15 years. If the price seems too good to be true-it probably is. I have seen children showing up to perform on steel drums (bride was given a low price-and kids performed-the the bride and the guests were very embarassed). Remember you get what you pay for in this specialty area. There are no bargains. If someone offers you a low price-it has to come out of somewhere- and you will wind up losing. There are no additional fees, taxes etc. There are no taxes on any performing music services. My policy is balance of payment is not due until after the performers have finished. Until you are satisfied there were there on time and performed as per your contract. You have to have a minimum of two performers. One performer and a rhythm machine does not work. It sounds empty. You never want to say 'I should have arranged for ......'after the performance. It is too late and you will always be reminded it sounded skimpy on your video. Please remember - I give seminars to bridal consultants (people who earn their living at planning weddings). This is one of the topics I cover regarding cocktial hour music. It is better not to have music than to have something that you will regret in the years to come as you look back on your wedding day.The wedding day should be perfect and magical-not filled with worry. I have my Steel Drum Musicians on cassette tape if you would like to hear them. If Christie Whitman and the daughter of the owner of the Westbury Manor loved them-you will also love them. They are great. Please feel free to call me at (631) 754-0594.

Re: Steel Drum Band

Dear Liz:

Call Burke Entertainment (631-286-4168). We can walk you through some options. Depending on how large an area, how many guests you have, and what you want to budget, we'll help you determine how many players (steel and percussion) will suit you best. We can start with just one player and a rhythm machine and build from there.
Hope to hear from you,

Re: Steel Drum Band

Dear Liz,
I just added additional information to my original post to you. Use as a rule of thumb - you get what you pay for- there are no bargains in the area of specialty music-especially in Steel Drums. You do not need to look at your video years from now and find you were unhappy with any aspect of the wedding reception.
It is always better to avoid music than have something that will cause you worry on your wedding day.You can go onto my main website www.stanwiest.com
Half way down the page is an area of Specialty Music. You can click on any highlighted item and see specific pictures and information on that entertainment. Hope this was of help to you in your decision making.
