I'm only 2 months away from my wedding, and I have no idea how much to tip! I am usually a very generous tipper, but if I tipped everyone 20% that would be about $8K!!! Eeks.
Here are who we are planning on having. I'm also including cost since it may be a percentage I'm expected to tip. Hope I didn't forget someone!
2 Photographers, 1 assistant. One of the photographers is an acquaintance, has gone out of his way for us already, and is the 'owner' (really just an independent guy who hired some of his friends/students to help). (Photography only. Didn't charge for travel time or eng. photos (no prints/albums): approx. $3200
1 florist (she runs her own business) approx. $3000
String Trio for ceremony/cocktails $850 DJ (He owns the business) $1450, didn't charge travel time, same for string trio
1 coordinator with 1 assistant (coordinator runs own business, and has already expressed an expectation of a tip?) $1750
Hair person (friend/doing it on her own not through salon) (Not sure how much yet) 2 Makeup persons (Not sure how much yet-one for me and 1 for bridal party/moms)
Then, at our hall ($115++ pp): Lobby Hostess Event Mgr. Maitre d' Bridal Assistant Valets
Gosh, how much do we tip all of these people???

Re: tipping question, same as starfire!
A sticky subject at best. No, 20% doesn't make sense since the 'package' or amount that you're spending has no relevance to the service provided by the people working. As an example, I always tip much more for breakfast since it costs so much less then dinner and the staff works just as hard. You should consider how many hours and how personally involved they are in providing their service.
