commuters out there....

i know this is random but does anyone know how long it would take from let's say Glen Cove to New Rochelle every day during the rush hours??

DH and I trying to debate moving to New Rochelle in westchester or staying out on long island and driving everyday.....we are starting work at a hospital up there but it's only for a year

I think it would be a pretty intense and draining commute...but it totally depends on your schedule and the timing of your drive. You mentioned rush hour and in that case, I wouldn't suggest it.

DH lived in White Plains when we first started dating and I made the drive THOUSANDS of times in rush hour...it is not pretty.

Miles-wise...GC & NR are actually fairly close. Don't let that fool you - rush hour between the two is impossible in my opinion.

i used to drive from dix hills to white plains every day one summer when i was interning and living with my parents and with traffic it would take me up to 2 hours to get there... without traffic closer to an hour-hour and 15

I would not suggest it. During rush hour it could easily be two hours. Also, is this during your intern year? If so, you'll want to be as close to the hospital as possible given how exhausted you'll be by the crazy hours. You'll want to be able to roll out of bed then return and pass out after a 24 hour shift.

I don't drive to work but I would agree with the others..it's a long drive and will be especially difficult since you will have such a demanding career..I would honestly rent an apartment close to the hospital for a year.

thanks girlies...the only thing deterring me was that the rent for a studio next to the hospital is 1100 plus internet
i felt it's sort of a lot for such little space but i think DH and I might just suck it up for a year.

thanks for the advice.

i have to disagree a little. new rochelle is right on the border of the bronx, and it's way east, so it's really not comparable to white plains. i used to commute huntington to riverdale (nw bronx) and i think it's a similar commute (although yours would be better b/c you don't have to cross 95 which is the worst). if you're not that into moving, i think it's a totally doable commute for a year, especially if you're doing it together. i would say generally it would be about an hour, possibly 1:15.

I live in NR and if u do opt to rent here I can tell u that u can get a waaay better price 15 min walk from the hospital. the closer u are to the train area (the hospital area) the more it is
in terms of driving its doable but the traffic is insane. so if u think u can deal w/traffic everyday then why not?
