did your DH ask your dad?! and if so, do you know how?! If so, how?!
Kieran asked my dad on christmas eve. The man has tried murder cases in front of a jury before but he said he was still nervous and sweaty before asking my dad...big jack...as he likes to call him! (My dad can be a total ball breaker...in the best possible way!) Anyways, kieran asked in my parent's kitchen and without saying anything my dad walked over and straight up bear hugged him!!! He then asked if K would tell my mom bc he knew he wouldn't be able to keep it a secret!
ETA: Kieran and big jack are total bffs now!

DH did ask my father. He actually went over to ask my mom and dad together but my mom wasn't home. DH never gets nervous - I tell him he has no heart because he doesn't get happy, upset, excited or anything. But he was nervous for this. He was quite relieved when there was no hesitation out of my dad and he said 'Of course!'. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall for that conversation.

Yup. My dad was actually doing some volunteer work at a hospital for a few months, so DH went to the hospital to meet him. I don't know all of the details but what I do know is that DH bought him lunch (not hospital food, lol) and sat down and asked him. My father asked him if he was sure , and then of course gave him his blessing.
The funniest part about it all though, is earlier that day, my father had called DH's cell phone. DH said it was my dad calling, but ignored it. I was sitting there like W T F is my dad calling you for????? I guess DH had called him earlier to make the plans and dad was returning his call.
DH ended up proposing that same night that he met my dad, so once I got over the excitement I just said....'THAT'S why my dad was calling you!!!!!!!'

Yupp. DH asked my dad like the week before he asked me. DH told me that he had to drive his brother somewhere and he didn't know when he'd be back. He went to my parents house with the ring and waited. Apparently they both had to work late and he was stuck waiting there for like 2 hours. lol! But in the mean time, he showed my sister and brother and grandmother the ring and then asked my father for permission when he got home. He waited for my mom, too.
My sister told me later on that on one of her tests in school the teacher threw in an extra credit question and the question was something like 'Name one big secret you know that the person it's about doesn't know.' and my sister put that DH was going to propose to me THAT day and she got like 5 extra credit points for it. lol! She said her teacher loved it.
ETA: I caught DH showing something to my MOH while we were outside cleaning up the front of the house. I could tell it was jewelry but since my birthday was in a week I thought it was a b-day gift. But everyone knew. Every one of my friends, family, everything. In fact I got a text saying congrats WHILE Dan was proposing. lol! Thank goodness I didn't read it right away.

Re: spinoff to val's really cute post!
I was away one weekend visiting my friend I think (actually not sure where I was) and I sent DH to my parents' house to fix my Mom's comp. I found out later that he also told my parents he was going to propose.
DH doesn't ask anything, he tells people
The night of the proposal, I went home for a few to see my Dad (Mom was away, I called her of course) and Dad was like so? I started laughing. He's like, 'You know, he never 'asked,' he just TOLD us.' Dad was a good sport about it though. They all figured it was coming, we were together for almost 8 years at that point.
Dad's funny, every time I speak to him, he asks if I'm still married.

Yes he went over and asked. I was going on to dinner with all my girlfriends like I do every year but I forgot something at his apartment and asked him to drop it off at my parents house. I told 2 of my friends 'I think Franky's going to talk to my parents tonight' (just a hunch). Apparently I was right. He showed up with some dessert and went to speak to my parents. My dad was smoking a cigar in the den so my mom called him in.
My dad came out and sat on the other side of the kitchen by the stove with the vent. My mom called him closer and Franky said he was just laughing at my dad (HUGE ball buster). So Franky asked if he could have my hand in marriage (like legit what he said...corny I know) and my dad said 'yes' but as Franky was walking out my dad added 'if you hurt her, I'll kill you.' Now, my dad's 5'4' but he's Scilian and a little scary if he wants to be. My little sister ended up seeing the ring box (he brought it to show my mom - she even tried it on ) so when he drove her to the bar that night she told him 'I guess congrats is in order' and he said 'yup just don't tell'.
Franky proposed a week and half later and my mom said that every time I was with Franky and I would call the house she would freak out. Finally on NYE I called the house to wish my parents 'happy new year' (he didn't propose until about a half hour after the ball dropped - and was setting up while I was on the phone). My dad said that when the phone rang my mom looked at him and said 'it's Linda what do I do' and he said 'answer the phone!' She was a little disappointed but about 35 minutes later I called her back screaming we were finally engaged! I can't believe no one let it slip!

DH asked my dad for 'permission' as well
While DH and I were dating, my Dad moved to Florida for work. Since we would talk about marriage, it crossed my mind, wondering if he would find a way to ask my Dad since he's not in NY very often anymore. About 8 months after he moved down there, DH and I went to visit him for a long weekend. While we were there, I secretly wondered if he would ask my Dad, but put it out of my mind since they were never alone very often. After my cousin and her boyfriend at the time came and spent time with us too, so I thought it wouldn't happen.
Well, DH proposed to me one week after we got back from Florida! I later found out that he asked my Dad while I was in the shower... they were watching golf (haha) and he told my dad that he bought a ring and he said that my dad nodded and said 'oh...' and then a second later he did a double take, and was like 'OHH!!!' and he got all happy but they had to act normal pretty quick because I came out of the shower and we were off to our next 'thing' on our trip
ETA: my cousin and i hadn't seen each other in a year before that visit, and she and her DH got engaged THE DAY after me and lawrence did! And yet we were just together the week before talking about if and when we would get engaged - love reminscing about this stuff
