question about permanent french nails

I have an appointment to get a full set tomorrow. I used to get acrylic nails with extensions (not tips, I always hated tips). Well, now I am willing to try tips..........so when I made the appointment, the salon owner asked me if I wanted white tips, or white powder on a clear tip. The white powder on a clear tip costs more. I asked if there was a difference. He said NO. I asked if there is a difference later, when I get a fill in. He said NO. So, should I just get the white tip (pink acrylic base)? Is there a difference?

FYI--I am definitely only interested in acrylic, not gel or silk. Also, does anyone know a place where I can get pink and white using extensions and not tips? That's not crucial but I'm curious. I'm going back to the salon that did my regular acrylics, so I do trust them.

Does anyone know what I am talking about or am I a wacko?

ETA--I posted this on BHB because I think it is a bride issue and I wanted to put it in a board thatr gets traffic!

Re: question about permanent french nails

I say get the acrylic. I got the gel and white powder tips. Boy were they stubborn! I just really wanted the nails to look pretty for my wedding day. Little did I know I would end up relegated to biting them off for the duration on my honeymoon! I thought they would come off by dipping them in acetone (like acrylics do). I soaked them the day after my wedding and they didn't budge.

In an attempt to have them taken off on my honeymoon, the spa at my hotel told me that they only remove acrylic tips and that they couldn't help me. About two days before it was time to go home, I was able to bite them off, but I really wouldn't recommend them to anyone who doesn't want them there for at least a month.

Re: question about permanent french nails

It's really just preference, but I would say go with the white tips. That way the curve of the white is perfect, since it's the tip and not acrylic that someone shaped by hand. The pink fill-ins will be the same either way. I don't think it's possible to get a permenant french without tips if you don't already have long nails, but as they grow out you keep cutting the tip and eventually it will just be your nail. Also, when you fill in the white later you will have to get the white acrylic (unless you cut them all off and start with tips again).

HTH!!

Re: question about permanent french nails

I am a manicurist and I would recommend getting the white and pink acryllic powder, not the white tip. We only use the white tip when we work with silk nails. It has a sort of harsh look to it - the powder permanent french comes out better.
Good luck!

Re: question about permanent french nails

Kerie...I have permanent french....But I get the clear tips and have them form the white with powder. I've had the white tips before...on my nails they look a little unnatural.

As for the white tips having perfect curves....well your natural nails don't have a perfect curve. If you have a good nail tech...they will make them as close to perfect as possible(My nail tech calls them smiles(the curves)) Anyhoo...I adore my permanent French...I just prefer the powder....they shape it to fit your nail and look more natural on your nails.

Re: question about permanent french nails

me personally i hate the white tip! once your nail grows out and they file the white is gone. Atleast w/ acrylic they can do the rebalance every 2 weeks and it will look brand new!

go w/ clear tips and pink and white acrylic! :)
