TOYS FOR TOTS-if you would like to donate a toy(s)

Ok so I am planning on donating toys to Toys for tots for needy children. I would love to get alot of people involved so we can all donate LOTS of toys to children who really it need it this holiday season. Toys for tots is a great organization where we can donate the toys, there are alot of drop off locations. They are all in the 5 boroughs and since I live in Queens, I can pick a location to drop them all off. Two other LIW members said they would love to help so far, Browneyesncute and Futuremrsfab. So what we would do is set up pick up locations for any of you that want to donate a toy or toys, we would get all the toys and then drop them off at the locations. More people can of course volunteer and help with this, if you are interested let me know.

I called up Toys for tots and the only rule they have is that its a new toy that is still in its box but other than that you can buy any toy you want. Most toys are inexpensive so can be lets say $10, 15,20,30 or whatever you feel comfortable spending. If you want to do more thats all on you but even if we get just 1 gift from most ladies on here, that would be huge. You can also tell your friends, family, co-workers to help out. Once we get more responses from ladies that want to donate, I will set up pick up locations where we would pick up the toys from you, but anybody is more than welcome if they want to come with me to drop them off.

If you are interested in doing this please post and let us know

Here is the website for toys for tots if you would like to see info about the organization yourself

Re: TOYS FOR TOTS-if you would like to donate a toy(s)

I worked for a non profit (and still volunteer there) that does a toy drive to benefit the kids in the Cypress Hills area (East NY) of Brooklyn. There are many kids there living below...I mean way below the poverty line that could use warm jackets or any toys you may be willing to donate. If anyone is interested please FM me or visit www.cypresshills.org and click on the tab Cypress Hills Child Care Corp. you will see that this is a legitimate non profit.

With the economy we are having a hard time with donors, please if you can spare even $20 for a toy or send a check to the corporation (earmarked toy drive on the memo section) the children of the community would really appreciate it.!!!

I wish more people were participating, this way we could've just given some toys to one organization and then a bunch of other toys for another organization. But doesnt seem like many are responding if by any chance alot of ppl decide last minute to do it, i will keep this in mind

its sad bc if i posted a thread about Britney spears or the hills then this thread would be up to 4 pages within mins of posting, but something for a good cause, hardly any

I just went ahead and did my normal gift giving through my local church that I do every year from picking a star off the tree.

I think that there might be people who are less likely to respond maybe because they have already donated, or they have a tradition.

Many people are living paycheck to paycheck. My girls who I used to work with are making 75% less of what they used to make this time last year. Many are losing their jobs or taking a huge paycut. Bonuses are hard to come by. My dh is lucky to have the job he has and nothing has changed. As for me...I dont work now, especially because Its not worth it to work for such little money especially while Im prego. Its so hard for people to even spare that 20$ when they are trying to just get by on their next minimum payment on their credit card or to buy food. Its a rough year, and I see it with my own eyes. Im not even going up to people this year asking for their toys...I know that if they have them, they will give them. I do not want to make people feel guilty. It was sad to see that there were stars still left on the tree at my church...usually by this time...they are all gone. Im hoping this may make you understand about people not responding. This isnt the case for everyone of course....but from the statistics this is it. You are doing an amazing thing.applause:

thank you and i do understand this year is harder than others. The toys for tots have been saying that they are getting little donations this year. I am not working now either so trust me i know how hard it can be. I sometimes think people dont realize that you dont have to buy an expensive gift. So many toys like action figures and barbies are $10-12, you dont have to spend alot. If you just dont buy starbucks for 1 or 2 days it can go towards a toy, or something small you cut out of your life.
