Re: other than rice..
The second one down. I went to a wedding and it they had something that looked like the 2nd one down. Are those from Martha Stewart? If so, I was told they just dissolve with water so most places don't mind them being thrown since the rain when it comes will just wash it away.
These confetti-like hearts make an excellent alternative to rice for throwing at a wedding. Made from all-natural materials, they are water-soluble (so they will not harm birds) and slip-proof (so they will not harm guests). Two-pound bag contains enough for approximately 100 favors. Wraps scoopfuls in Scalloped Tulle Rounds and cinch with ribbon, or package in Cube Favor Boxes and seal with Monogram Stickers (all available through Martha by Mail).

Very cool...but my church was going to charge a fee for cleanup, so I went with bubbles.

My church told us WE would have to clean up. That being the case, we chose to use bubbles...

Re: other than rice..
I was told that the birds eating rice is just a myth.
My church said they didnt want rice thrown is that it is food, and there are starving people, and throwing rice would be throwing away food.
I wanted to do butterflies, but heard more negative things. Most of the butterflies were dead, and they all fell to the ground and people were stepping all over them

Re: other than rice..
We used dried lavender buds and it was a big hit. They smelled wonderful and weren't too messy. I got them from the Wedding Channel wedding shop.
I am using the heart confetti. I am going to package it up like the picture on the bottom- red ribbon and stickers I had made to say J&K. The packages and stickers are from Wedding Favorites
