She is having a little party at a restaurant after. DH & I are going. How much money do you think we should give as a gift?

They are having a party in the restaurant though so I thought we should give a little more. What do you think?

I would go a little more, maybe $75-100? My best friend's son made his first Communion last week, and I am his Godmother. I gave $200 and my friend said it was way too generous.

What about a savings bond? They double by the time they mature in 10 years. I'm not sure about the denominations though.

Thats a good idea too. I would have to get his ss # from his mom though.

You can do a savings bond without the SS#. My son got a bunch and they never had his #. Do they mature in 10 years? I thought it was longer. If it's longer, I'd opt to do cash instead. Give the amount you feel comfortable with and can afford. I said $50 b/c I never thought of a communion as a 'cover your plate' kind of thing. The events we give larger amounts of money for are christening, HS graduation and weddings.

I think the only way you can give a bond without knowing their ss# is when you use your own. I will talk to DH tonight and see what he wants to give as a gift.Thank you!!

For a bond you have to supply a SS# when you apply for it, but it's not a big deal if you use your own. When they go to cash it in, they will have to provide a SS# for tax purposes - that's the one that counts. Yep, they mature in 10 years - we just got one for someone's baby.
I don't think you need to cover your plate for a communion either. The gifts all go to the kid I really can't see giving a kid more then $50 - 100.

It really depends on your relationship with the child. For my Goddaughter's christening, I went a little crazy with how much i spent. But when youre a Godparent, its a different story.
But I would say between $50 and $100. or a nice gift.
We've also gotten many bonds without his SS#

My FH's neice just had her 1st communion and they had a party with dinner and a dj - they got money from all the gifts and FH's brother said everyone basically gave 50$ except for some close family members who gave 75-100$

We gave a bond to my cousin's son for his communion last week. We couldn't decide between $50 and $100 so, we did $75

I've never been to one of these, but I think I would give $100. It sounds like a 'safe' amount!
