My FH's mother passed away a couple of years ago and we are looking to honor her in a way that is elegant and classy, not over bearing and sad. We may even want to include his mother, my uncle and his uncle that recently passes as well.
Any suggestions for us to do this?

I don't know if this is what you are looking for but, I've seen people light candles during the ceremony in remembrance for those who have passed.

if you have a program for your ceremony, you can have a memorial page

You can do candles 'in Memory of' or a donation.
I did a search for memory and honor and I came up with this thread: thread

They make memory candles, where it has a quote and then you can list the names of those who have passed. Im thinking of doing this as well and having it on a table in the RH.

like a donation to the american cancer society in memory of aunt mary in lieu of favors

My dad passed away 1 1/2 yrs ago. We are doing a memorial candle at the church and I will have a picture of him in my bouquet. There was a great thread on the 08 board about a week ago for all girls who lost a partent. There were some pretty good ideas on there. Ill see if I can find it for you.

Re: looking to honor someone that passed
My DH's father passed away earlier in 07' before our wedding. We had what our minister called a 'silent blessing' he said a few words and we had a moment of silence for the people that couldn't be with us that day.....It was simple and not too heavy (my DH didn't want to get really upset so he wanted something simple).

Re: looking to honor someone that passed
Just think of the person you are doing the memorial for and what they liked and try to add that in to the memorial a bit.
This is what we did, Our friend passed away in the middle of August. What we did was we included his name a reading remembering the sick and deceased. It was a very nice way i thought to remind all of our friends of him and also to make it feel as if he was there with us..
Also he was only 22 so we put a bottle of 151(his favorite) on the bar (where he would have wanted to be)with 4 shot glasses set up around it with one upright filled for him with a candle. No pictures or anything that would have been to depressing to us. It turned out really nice.

Re: looking to honor someone that passed
at the beginning of our ceremony our officiant recommended that we either light a candle or do a moment of silence.....since we'll be lighting a unity candle i think we are going to do a moment of silence. since there are quite a few family members who have passed and wont be there with us we are going to have a general moment in silence but put our grandparents names and my cousins name in our ceremony program.

I want to honor them, but I dont want it to be too sad. I think the candle idea might be the best way for me.

Re: looking to honor someone that passed
some ideas...lighting a memory candle for them (mine for my dad is in my DIY album), framed picture of them, poem/mention in your program or ceremony, small bouquet frame to hang a picture from your bouquet, song choice, donation to something meaningful in their name or other favor that incorporates something about them,.....
if you read my review, i include the ways that I included my dad.

Re: looking to honor someone that passed
We purchased the memory vase (easy to find on line $24.00) and are making a special arrangement for it. I also plan on having the names printed and a poem (not yet chosen) placed in a frame next to it. The flowers will be by the seating cards then moved into the reception area!
