Weirdos

Weirdos

So on Yahoo Answers, there's a wedding section. So I asked over there about non edible but practical wedding favors. I said I couldn't use wine charms, ice cream scoops or cake servers because my family members had used those things, but I wanted something along those lines because they're useful.

This was one lady's answer to me.

'Dear one,

You have set up so many restrictions for your wedding favors that you might be suffering from 'perfectionism' that many brides succumb to - where everything has to be 'just so' or it's perfectly AWFUL!!!!! BOO HOO! I CAN'T GET MARRIED BECAUSE I'M NOT DOING BLA-BLA-BLA!!! with lots of tears and such.

So, let's cut some of this mess out and see what's really what.

OK the purpose of a wedding favor is to give your guests a little something to nibble on while the bridal party is getting ready for the grand entrance. They're not really meant to be treasured mementos to be willed on to the next generation. Thus, a couple of biscotti or other luscious cookies, or a handful of bridge mix, jordan almonds, trail mix, M&Ms, or a chocolate-dipped pretzel stick or maybe some really good cheese straws tied in a pretty ribbon etc. are what's in order - not some gadgety trinket.

That said, you didn't say WHY you don't want anything edible.

Something else - wedding favors are for each individual guest - not 'one per family, please.' That's really cheesy - one per family or invited unit. The message you're sending is 'I'm cutting corners here.' That's not the message you want to send for a classy event like your wedding. So, plan on one per guest, please.

I suggest crisp, buttery, cheese straws, wrapped in tissue paper and tied with a beautiful silk ribbon to be placed at each table setting to be nibbled on during cocktails.

One more argument for edibles is price. Aside from becoming the next junk-drawer-yard-sale-item, trinkets (even practical ones) get left behind, tossed in the trash, left in hotel rooms, etc. So you've spent $4 per item just to have it thrown away.'

CHEESE STRAWS? Seriously lady? I already told her I was having a bagillion course wedding with 90 minute cocktail hour and dessert people can choose to box and take home and she wants me to give my guests CHEESE STRAWS WRAPPED IN RIBBON?

Re: Weirdos

Gina, could you imagine going into RUSSO'S and asking them to place cheese straws wrapped in tissue at each plate?
'Excuse, I know you're feeding my party enough delicious Italian food to feed an army for 3 days, but could you please MAKE SURE EACH GUEST GETS A CHEESE STRAW, it's very important!'

I want to punch this condescending woman in the nose. Tell her where to go with her cheese stix.

And her other suggestion was trail mix. I'm glad I'm not invited to HER parties.

Hahahhahaha! Omg thank you for this. Im stuck in the car on the Belt Pkwy and this perked me up.

Its obvious this woman isnt from NY. Maybe they give our delicious buttery cheese straws wrapped in tissue in Minnesota but this is NY. Weddings are a step up here.

Seriously she shoild never come here for a wedding. She'd faint.

Wow...
