More Advice for Brides to Be (Mostly for the morning brides 11am wedding etc)
Yet more ‘after-wedding’ advice.
For those morning brides, what DO YOU DO? My wedding was over at 5pm and here’s what happened.
We hauled ALL the gifts and stuff back to the hotel room from the limo. Both of us immediately got comfy. Called my brother (who was staying in the hotel) and the Best Man who was still there and we all collected in the room (ours). Best man got comfy so did brother all tuxes were put away and dress put in the bag.
As we all sat with another glass of wine, I took out all those bobby pins from my HEAD!! (over 300!!) While the guys brought us up to date on what we MISSED in the wedding. It’s amazing how much goes on! Oh my god, some of it was so funny! To hear about the reactions to things (cake, granny drop, etc) was really entertaining. Then Jim & I got to share some of our initial reactions like the fact we totally forgot about the tradition of clinging the glasses for us to kiss. The fact that I kept swinging my slippered shoes back and forth under the sweetheart table.
It was nice to sorta re-live it all so soon afterwards. This mind you, took HOURS. I guess I really enjoyed it because the Best Man was Jim’s Best friend and my brother is my best friend and they actually both got along REALLY well. So with a small group who knows us so well and has our own sense of humor it was really good to sit and laugh about the times.
Next thing you know it’s close to 10pm and believe it or not, yes, we were hungry. So off we go. The four of us go to a near by restaurant to eat. It’s weird being married with your new ring on your finger, your closest friends with you and your hubby just eating your first ‘dinner out’ together. You wanna just walk around screaming “We got married today!”. And yes, you do ‘glow’ and people notice. I think it has something to do with the make up not totally gone from my face and those left over curls in my hair! Hehe
For us (Jim & I) this was PERFECT. Unplanned and fantastic. We were both worn out and I was coming down with a cold I wouldn’t know about until the next day, so a big get together would not have been for us. Just a small intimate group was just right.
Being that we are odd folks (boy aren’t we) we also went out and played video games. Sounds really stupid silly on your wedding night but it was fun. Especially when it “let your wife win, you idiot!” was screamed by the two guys.
We got back to the hotel had some more wine and talked some more. Finally called it quits close to midnight I think or later. We had to drive my parents to the airport the next morning and be up by 5am so a short night it was, lets not forget Jim & I were running on 3hours sleep to begin with for our wedding day.
All and all. I think it was great. For those who worry about what to do with the ‘time’ left over. It all works out. Do whatever you’re most comfortable with. Imagine you just went to someone else’s wedding with a few friends, what would you do if the friends were still hanging about? For us it was sit and gossip, eat and play games. For you, it may be spend time with the family or have a big bar party as an afterparty.
No matter what you choose, enjoy the FULL day!!
