My friend is (was) getting married in 6 weeks at the Holbrook Country Club. He just found out today that it's closed... no forwarding information available. The town of Islip (I think) owns it, and they are supposed to get back to him by Friday as to what options he has. If they don't have a solution for him, they have no place to have the wedding!
His fiancée just got a new job and is training out of state and doesn't know about this, he is flipping out trying to get it fixed before she comes home at the end of NEXT week. Can you imagine, coming home and finding out your hall doesn't exist anymore?
Anyway, what are some halls in that area that are inexpensive? Money is a big factor here, as they had just enough for HCC but now don't have the time to save anymore money for a more expensive hall! Does anyone know anyone that could help them out? Luckily, February isn't May or June in terms of popularity or price, but they are in a REAL bind here.

WHAT!!!! There are other Holbrook Country Club brides on here. That's really awful that they closed with no warning!!!!!

I would tell them to call to see if any halls have open dates. Someone on this site had her hall close down and she ended up at Milleridge Cottage at the last minute with well under the normal minimum.

They didn't even tell him they were closing... and he found out by accident when a friend of his was trying to make an appt with them so that they could get married there too, and couldn't reach anyone, all of the numbers were disconnected!

This may actually work in his favor. Most halls heavily discount with only a few weeks to go and the date open. But it still sucks! I would be so upset! Edited since I sounded like a cold person who didn't care!

That's horrible! My friend had her wedding at George Washington Manor. She planned her's in a short amount of time and got a pretty good deal. Best of luck to your friend!

That is so horrible! I can not believe that happened! Halls will have a heavily discounted price so close to the date, but I am not sure what would be available. They should definitely call around. I wish I could be more helpful. I feel so badly for this poor couple, especially the bride who is away, all excited about her wedding in 6 weeks, no idea anything is wrong. Keep us updated! Yeah, I've heard this a lot on this site. We have some former catering hall employees on this site.
It's like free money - assuming the date is open. They may even work with the Holbrook pricing.

I feel SO bad for them... and the poor bride doesn't even know yet!! How could the vendor just up and disappear? I hope he finds them so he can sue them!! He just got into a car accident and the car was totaled, and she is stressed with her new job, and now THIS!!

What a nightmare. That is horrible...I do not know where your friend lives but there are a few halls that offer packages under $10,000 like Meditterean Manor. I know Sunset Harbour? in Patchogue (I think) is reasonable. I feel so bad for your friends. Good Luck

Huntington Townhouse is resonable with lots of notice so if they have the date open maybe they would be even cheaper like the brides said. Hope it gets worked out!

maybe in explaining the situation, your friend can bargain with halls to lower the price
possibly even tell the hall that he will do a followup on the news and mention that said hall came to the rescue ((ie free advertisement!)

I think they really should start blast calling all the halls! One will have an open date....
