for those of you who are having (or did have) rose petals tossed, what did you put the petals in?
Some options are:
A few baskets of petals and assigning someone to pass the petals out by the handful.
Petal cones - but I do not want to make 150 of them. Also, is there a problem with transporting them since the cones are not covered? Is there an easy template? Can they be purchased?
glassine bags?
How many petals per bag/cone?
Thanks much

Re: tossing rose petals
I know flower quotes I have received were no additional charge for petals for the cake table, flowergirl, and placecard table.
Did your florist charge for the 'throwing' petals? If so, how much?

My plan is to get silk petals for centerpieces but I guess the florist should be the one to supply petals.
All of the florist I contacted said they would throw in petals for the cake and place card table. I did not ask about tossing petals though. They can't be that much though.

Re: tossing rose petals
I did ask about rose petals but not specifically for tossing
> 15 - 16 centerpieces (tall with candles like in pic) > bridal bouquet (purple flowers with lillies - maybe cascading) > 3 girls bouquets > 4 boutineers > 4 corsages > roses for bubble bowls at cocktail hour > purple rose petals for aisle > purple rose petals for cake table > purple rose petals for place card table > purple tulle and bows for aisle > 6 standing pieces for the aisle (but could use > centerpieces for this) > centerpieces for the bridal suite and placecard > table > dais for reception > flowers for cake > purple rose petals for flower girl (assuming we have one - not sure yet)

I made cones out of doilies and they are very easy to make. Just buy doilies at the $1 store, cut in quarters and roll into a cone and secure with tape. The dolie design hides a lot of flaws too if you are like me and don't want to spend much time on them. You can do similiar things with other kinds of paper but the doily method is the cheapest and easiest IMO.

I did the doilies too, it was pretty easy since they are already circular (no cutting out circles) and glued with a hot glue gun. Then I decorated a few baskets, filled them with the doilies standing up and left them with my florist. She filled them up and had them delivered to the church with the rest of the flowers. All in all, very easy, inexpensive, and made for great pictures!

Re: tossing rose petals
I made cones from vellum. Mine were time consuming because I tied each one with ribbon, but if you skipped the ribbon they wouldn't take long at all. I stacked all the cones in a basket and people filled them with the petals, also in baskets supplied by the florist, as they entered the ceremony.

Re: tossing rose petals
It made my rose petal cones w/ the paper doilies (sp?)- and i probably put a/b 15 in each or just filled them to the top. As I was making them I put them in a basket! It worked really well!

Re: tossing rose petals
cones are an easy way for the guests to dig their hands into and toss out. another i would say is a nicely wrapped lil box that has an easy opening access. and i would fill them up to the top. not everyone gets a cone/box. most of hte ppl sitting next and/or near the aisle gets one. reason why is because teh other guests furthest from the aisle will have a hard time tossing them... it would be wasted. they're probably going to be busy clapping their hands =) besides, you want sprinkles of rose petals tossed at you.. looks nicer, no?

How do you decide who gets them?

I didn't consider that. So I don't need to make 150 cones. Great!!!!
I think I will only make 50 or so then for the guests near the aisle.
How does that work? Does someone hand out the petal cones DURING the ceremony (walk down the aisle) or, assuming people are in and seated on time, hand them out just BEFORE the ceremony begins?
I think I answered my own question.

Re: tossing rose petals
I had mine a basket and I had someone walk around with the basket (after the cermony as the said they good wishes to the Bride/Groom) and tell everyone to take a handful --- I wanted to rose petal cones, but I didn't have enough time or patience
