The 'official' candy bar thread
This is the “official” candy bar thread because I get tons of forum mail each week and I wanted to create one main source of information where I can put my experiences and other brides can share what they are doing. Below is how I set up the candy bar for my wedding and some photos.
Also, let me say – this was a HUGE hit and my wedding. The NRC liked it so much that they bought all my supplies – what more could a bride ask for! I highly recommend this to anyone looking to do something different and fun.
Equipment
First, to create your own candy buffet you will need the following equipment:
• Vases
• Scoopers
• Cellophane Bags
• Stickers/Labels
• Candy
Websites
I bought most of my supplies from the following websites. These sites have the cheapest in bulk candy that I could find…
• www.orientaltrading.com (Large Swirl Lollipops, Old Fashion Sticks)
• http://store.candywarehouse.com (Jars, Thongs, & Candy…. GREAT SITE!)
• www.germandeli.com (Licorice Wheels)
• http://www.organize-everything.com (Plastic Scoop)
• www.candyfavorites.com (More great candy – cheaper than most!)
• Also, we purchased the bags and a local party store and made our own labels.
Containers
I had 8 containers total and ordered my containers from the Candy Warehouse and from Ebay. The ones from Ebay are hard to find, but I wanted to mix up the vases to make it more interesting to the eye. The containers I purchased from the Candy Warehouse were “Glass Penny Candy Jars,” and they looked really great
Here is the link:http://store.candywarehouse.com/candyjar.html. The jars came four to a case, so it was about $10 a jar. It was a great deal!
Candy
The following is a list of candy I ordered. Of course, you can personalize this any way you want but I tried to mix it up with like this:
4 chocolates (1 plain, 1 sweet, 1 salty, 1 malt)
1 hard candy
1 sweet candy
1 bitter
1 sour
Specifically, we used the following candy…
1. M&Ms in our wedding colors (www.colorworks.com)
2. 80 Old fashion sticks
3. Licorice Wheels
4. Red Fish
5. Chocolate Cover Pretzels
6. Kopper's Ultimate Malt Balls
7. Sour Peach Hearts
8. Chocolate Covered Cookie Dough
9. Large Lolipops for kids
Set up
We had our hall set up the buffet in the lobby by the door and people grabbed some goodies as they left. However, some people have told me that they wanted to do this as party of their dessert and put it up near a Viennese table. You can do this however you want.
Price
Lastly, the total cost of the buffet cost me $416. If you use this as a favor and have 180 guests (like us) that is $2.80 a person.
To give you a better idea of my buffet, I have posted some photos.
I hope you find this helpful!
