Amityville Horror... I mean C'mon Already!

Original post by lolita4life

why are they STILL promoting it as 'based on a true story' when the Lutz family ADMITTED it was all a hoex?!?!
i know that the DeFeo murders were true and all that, but the rest isnt.. so why do they still say its a true story?

i knew two people who lived around there too. one guy lived next door.... but only during the murders, not the haunting. (he heard the gunshots i believe)

and another, my old teacher, lived behind them and said that it was all fake. he said teh 'pig' they saw was really this one persons cat who always would freak people out by just all of a sudden BEING there! i dont know too much....

but they did admit it was all a hoex.

plus people have been living there since with no problems

Hi Lolita! I agree, enough with the friggin movies already...but.......I live around the block from the house, and it never stays lived in for more then a year by any family. Teh most recent only lived there for 8 months or so. Most of them say that it is just frustrating having people gawking at the house all the time - some people even run through the yard to look at the back of the house. A few people have 'claimed' to see the weird light in the attic, and even the 'kid' looking out from under the stairs. But mostly it is a nuisance, especially on Haloween

I know where the house is....I used to work at the Porsche dealer down the block from it. We used to get all these wierdos coming into the dealership to ask where the house was.....We used to tell them all different places, because I am sure the people that are living there now don't appreciate people driving by just to see what the house looks like.....

I saw the house, and although it doesnt look the same, it wasnt knocked down and rebuilt....I am sure they just changed the exterior look of the house...you know to update it and hide it.

I dont care if the story was true or false about what happened there, I wouldnt buy that house.
Scott

The house they used in the movie never looked like the real house. The real house is actually very quaint and inviting...not very good for a horror story flick. They did re-do the outside not too long ago, and they have re-done there landscaping too.

BTW...I used to go to that dealership with my Porsche...when did you work there, Scott?

I never SIAD they knocked it down Or maybe I did I just woke up, I just said it looks different. I can understand why they would use the house with 'eye' because really that house looks a little scary.

I havent read all the posts here but I think the reason they say it's based on a true story is to say that the murders themselves are true not so much the 'haunting' of the family.

Most of the Amityville Horrors were based on the idea that evil lived there and not that it was haunted by the dead family.

The movie looks twisted heh. I'll wait for reviews

I know one day we actually found it. After looking for like years LOL. The adress is different. They had to have knocked it down and rebuilt it cause it LOOKS completly different.

My parents live in Amityville. They didnt knock it down, they just changed the windows and the address. The house is a dutch colonial and the way you can still tell which house it is is because the house is sideways. Meaning the front door faces south instead of towards the street. There is a big old boathouse in the back. I think the number is 10 Ocean ave.

so people still live there now?

I had an X who lived around the corner form the place and he knew the people who lived there then. We went there once but I only was outside. The front looks different but the backyard is almost identical! At least it was then like 5 or 6 years ago.

ETS: Yes people live there.

My cousin lives on that block. I know which house it is - they changed it so its not that recognizable, for example that window is not the same anymore.

I worked there from 1997 to 1999 I think. I started late 1997. I worked in the Service Department. I was one of the guys that detailed the car when it was purchased or washed it when it came in for service.

What year and kind of Porsche do you have?

So I know that someone was murdered there? is that how the story goes?
What's exactly real and what's fiction then?

Re: Amityville Horror... I mean C'mon Already!

In 1974 Ronald DeFoe killed his parents and his 4 siblings in the house. A year after, a couple with small children moved into the house and began experiencing 'paranormal' things in the house - ghosts, green ooze dripping from the ceiling, doors coming off hinges, voices, etc ... They quickly left and a book was written and numerous movies have been made about it.

If you type into google 'Amityville Horror' a TON of stuff will come up regarding the original murders, the people who lived there afterwards, the book, and the movies ... a lot of it is debated even today - truth vs. hoax.

i used to haeva book from teh 70s on it and it was a 'non-fiction' nad after they admitted to it they had to reprint them all as fiction.
i used to be 'into' the whole story
