This is something that I guess is very popular in weddings down south- my FH family keeps asking if we are going to do it- one of his GM said his wife got 1000 in cash doing it at their wedding- but to me, it seems a little tacky?
Did anyone do this at their wedding- where people give you money to dance with you?

I hadn't heard of this before but the idea of people paying money to dance with me seems a little weird.

Re: Did anyone do a 'dollar dance' at their wedding?
I am not sure if we're going to do this. It is quite common outside of NYC area. My mom lives in Illinois, and I have attended 3 weddings out there that did it. Also attended a wedding in Michigan that did it.
FH's brother did a dance where the guys took turns dancing w/ the bride and girls took turns dancing w/ the groom, but no money was involved.
I had posted about this last year and got mixes 'reviews'.

Absolutely not! it may be acceptable in other parts of the country, but here it's considered completel TACKY IMO. Also, keep in mind that in other aprts of the country people give gifts, not money (often less expensive too than they wold be here), so you're not asking for 'dollars' from someone who just put $300 in your envelope

I am from South Carolina...and they are very popular down there. I personally think they are so tacky! I have been to so many weddings that have them and I feel like they are asking for money, JMO. I am glad that most people don't do them up here. It's one southern tradition that I am not proud of But this is just my opinion ladies

My friend in PA did this at her wedding and it was cute but it's because people give gifts not cash. It's not something I'd do on Long Island.

Like everyone else has said, it's very popular in other states, but not here. I didn't do it but my cousin did about 3 years ago.

Ive been to weddings in Cali where they did this. People line up and pay a dollar to dance with the bride & groom. It's kinda cute, but not for me.

i've never seen this done at any wedding i've been to on li - so i'd have to say no to if we are going to do it.

It does seem a little Scores-y to me -- they don't try to put it in the bride's garter do they? THAT would be wrong!

Re: Did anyone do a 'dollar dance' at their wedding?
My DH is greek orthodox and every wedding we've gone to on his side of the family has done this. But I am told it's a greek tradition -or something to that extent. No one is shoving dollar bills down your dress-they throw it at you. I guess its Good Luck.

Re: Did anyone do a 'dollar dance' at their wedding?
Thank you girls for validating my opinion!!! When I first heard about it, I was like WHAT? And FH family thought I was crazy for not doing it!!! When I saw my FBIL wedding video and saw them doing it on there, it was VERY time consuming, and boring to watch.
(I was hoping the opinions would go in my favor so I could read your posts to FH!!! ha. He was laughing!)
Thanks!

Re: Did anyone do a 'dollar dance' at their wedding?
i've seen it done in an laotion and japanese wedding. i thought it was kinda strange, too, but during the second time around not so much anymore. the bride and groom dance with the guests and each guest can pin as many as one dollar to infinity. the pins were given out by the bridal party. i still think it's kinda strange, tho.

Re: Did anyone do a 'dollar dance' at their wedding?
I saw this done at Greek wedding but it was a little different. As the Bride Dances, with or without the groom, people went up and pinned monney to her dress, and others tossed money in the air at her.....But.... the money that was on the floor went to the Band/orchestra. Sort of like a tip. The money wasn't a payment to dance with the bride. Men and women were pinning money to her.

it actually isn't the song 'dollaH dance' it is just a tradition where people dance with the bride for a dollar. I know the song you are talking of, though!
Now I have that song in my head.. Dollah dollah dollah

Re: Did anyone do a 'dollar dance' at their wedding?
My cousin did this at her wedding. She lives in Pa. It was a lot of fun and she got to dance with everyone at her wedding. Unfortanatley we can not do this on Long Island because people give a lot more money for gifts here than they do in other parts. People also spend alot less for wedding then we do. I would love to do it so I can say I had a chance to dance with everyone but we just cant..
