Wedding regrets......

Wedding regrets......

These have been on mind so much lately....and reiterated last night when I watch MCDO's show because I saw what a nice relationship they had with some of their vendors.....

I would have chosen my 2 cousins as BMs instead of readers. Then I would have counted out my 3 college friends (they didnt do anything bad to me at all but I just wish I chose my cousins) Everytime I see them it breaks my heart a little more. I made the decision on who was going to be a BM too quick.

I would have researched flowers a bit more. I was very disappointed in the outcome.

I would have had someone pass my guestbook around so that everyone could have signed it. Not even half the guests did! What a waste.

I would have put tags on the table cameras. They were a last minute addition and I couldnt be bothered to write instructions. I thought everyone would just know what to do....

I would have done something extra like the slipper basket. I thought I couldnt do it because there was more than one wedding going on at the time. DUH I could have just had it in the reception room!

And while my proofs are awesome I 'forgot' to take a professional picture (or even an amateur one) with my 2 cousins I mentioned above (they even joked the other day and said lets all put our dresses on and take a picture!) as well as some guests that I am very close to. Too much on my mind at the time I guess!

Adding another after reading Lisa's: I would have insisted that we didnt go with a family friend for our DJ too. While he was great - there were some things I would have preferred done differently and I didnt feel comfortable dicussing these things with him. He is the best man's brother and I knew that the best man would have stuck his nose in things and it would have become a bigger issue than necessary.

There are a few other little things but these are the ones that stick out the most. I know its dumb to even dwell on these things cause they cant be changed but they just have been bothering me so much lately!

Anyone else have any regrets??!?! Maybe the brides to be can read this and not make the same mistakes!

Re: Wedding regrets......

My main regret is that it's over already I feel like it was a year ago instead of 10 days ago. I was very sad later that night that all of the planning, preparation and money is gone and done. I'm just glad I only planned for 5 months and not 1 or more years cause I would be worse then.

Not too many fortunately

I dont know if I would have gotten the chocolate fountain. It was in the back of the room and I dont know if alot of people even knew it was there. It was alot of extra money for something that wouldnt have been missed.

Flowers... that all I will say

I guess I wish that I went out with the BP after the wedding. Me and DH went home right after but if I went out I would have been able to live the day for a few more hours.

ETA: I wish I spent more $$$ while I was on my HM and got more souveniers.

When I watched MCDO15's show last night, I had similar feelings. It took me a while to remember why I didn't look into one of their vendors, but then I remembered that she is 2 hours away.

I regret not taking a few minutes to walk around the room to make sure everything was as it should be. I learned that while DOCs are extremely helpful, they do not fully take the place of your own eye and judgement. Part of the room wasn't set up as I was told it was going to be and it's been bothering me for weeks. I think I need closure and may send a letter to the hall about the issue.

I regret not asking anyone to bring their videocamera.

I regret not hiring a photography package that had DIY albums. I'm sooooo tired of vendor meetings!

I kinda regret spending so much money on it all. We could have had just as much fun somewhere else.

Someone mentioned that she regretted her chocolate fountain -- I absolutely do not regret ours!!! People are still talking about it, so I'm happy that it resonated as a good and unique part of their experience at our wedding.

Overall, we had a spectacular day and I hope someday to focus on the positive aspects of it more.

Re: Wedding regrets......

I would have stayed and got ready in a different hotel. The hotel was nice, but there was a wedding going on the day I checked in (the day and night before mine) and my reservation was screwed up. They moved my room twice and ended up putting me in the room next to the kitchen, which I didn't realize until 6am the next morning when I heard the breakfast dishes. Also, the wedding went on until about 1 am, with guests drunkenly finding their way back to their rooms until about 3 am AND my window faced the parking lot, so all the headlights flashed my window as the cars were leaving. I got little to no sleep the night before the wedding and it was not a cheap place to stay!

I would have done a few more flowers at the reception - more on the bridal table anyway, and I would have given more explicit instructions on how to decorate the cake. These were pretty minor things, though. Otherwise, I was happy with everything!

I regret cheaping out on my CPs. I know that in one sense I was smart to save money where I could, but I wish I had just sucked it up and splurged on the CPs I really wanted.
I also wish I had remembered to reapply my lipstick more often.

I regret getting married at the hall that I did So many problems just resulted in that!!!!

I regret listening to my husband and not hiring a DOC - or even a wedding planner. Yes it would of been a little more, but in the scheme of the wedding - having a person who is on your side is Essential.

Just having my sister and FSIL in the wedding party. It was so hard to find dresses that would flatter all the different figures, I had 5 BM's. one girl was not liked by another BM. That is about it, I do not miss wedding planning at all.

#1 Not making more of a stink to my parents & aunts that someone take care of my grandfather's transportation needs the day of. I insited they do something, I even offered to hire a limo for him ... they told me it was under control. He ended up getting lost and no one knew where he was for 1/2 the day and night. Nassau county cops were at my reception taking a police report and we had calls into all the major hospitals from here to Conneticut. He's 82 and forgetful and they let him DRIVE even though they know he gets lost easily. They didn't want to argue with him or make him feel bad. Instead my only grandparent missed my wedding. I should have taken matters into my own hands and just rented him a limo from the get-go.

#2 I would have had hair trials and make up trials LONG before the wedding. Way too much stress right before the wedding and I wasn't 100% happy with either one.

#3 I would have insisted that Kleinfel's remove the sequins that were underneath my underarm area. I knew it would be an issue and they insisted it compromised the look of my dress. Well I would rather that then my guests see the scratches and blood that were on my upper arms instead.

#4 I wouldn't have used a family friend for flowers. My flowers were georgeous - velvety roses and beautiful berries - top notch quality. But the style wasn't what I wanted and I never felt completely comfortable telling him I didn't want this or that and I wanted this instead. So I ended up with a so-so design - beautiful but not at all what I wanted.

Not much, thankfully. The wedding was so 'us'. The only thing we said we would do differently was to attend our cocktail hour with our guests. DH wanted to have a private cocktail hour in the bridal suite with our BP and have a grand entrance into the hall. Now we both feel we should have gone to the CH. Oh well, it worked out.

I probably would have reserched our guest transportation better. the bus company gave us such problems than they were worth.

Re: Wedding regrets......

dont get me wrong ladies..my wedding was perfect but it was flawed here and there. it was significant that it would always be on my mind.

#1 - photo guest book wasnt for me.. i rather have a regular sign in book. ppl took the picture and either kept it or didnt right anything in the book. this does me no good. the point was to get a photo next to the picture. I dont blame la productions for that but how safe that idea that my guest would actually have to do something that required thinking.

#2 - i didnt tell wild rose about my beach formals and they never came. i reply the beach in my head wondering how wild rose would of edited the tape. it was so dramatic, they love moments like that.

#3 - photos - i wanted more detail cause this wedding was all about the detail. i dont have pics of my menu's on the table, favors ( i do but its wrapped up), cake with the cake topper on.

#4 - money - i spent way too much. money is small and replaceable unlike your wedding day but i felt we went a tad over board.

#5 - table cameras. we had 15 tables, 8 cameras, only 4 were used. 4 went to waste. i had instrustions on them but then again, everybody already had there own camera which made these useless.

#6 - sucked into the TV moment. Dont get me wrong, i loved every second of it and all my vendors came aboard but nearly half of them didnt get shown. The plus were LA Productons, LA Blossom and you can hear Capriccio warming up while my the CONS - offiant Anglea Heil, my DJ didnt get any attention. All went a little extra for me because of our situation and they were rewarded with nothing.

7# - missing cocktail hour - that was some good food and good times there from what i heard.

8# - photos again, i wanted more. i didnt have any clowning and fooling around shots.

9# - time - granted my situation, i wish i had more time. wedding was already rushed and it got rushed even more because of my time schedule.

10# - researching more halls. this whole thing could of been avoided had i search more. we didnt rush it as we saw 14 halls in 2 months but there are perfectioninst out there that have seen like 40 and still not happy with 1.

but to conclude.... i had a great time. there was a ton of other stuff the show didnt show that wasnt seen. 1 day i will get into that.

Well I am still unsure if I regret it or not, but DH and I really went the cheap route with the wedding. We had a great time, but we could have spent more. DH thinks I am crazy because that would be less in our house fund.

Re: Wedding regrets......

In my review I put a bit of what went wrong with OHEKA, but lately I have been thinking about it more and more too.

I wish I booked wild rose for video, I really LOVE my video and it came out great but at the time I booked it I never even heard of a videographer! lol

My drink menus never got put out, the slippers I bought didnt get used (as seen in the photos), the gifts I forgot to give and the letters I never wrote to my BMs thanking them for everything, that kinda thing.

For the girls that regret not going to the cocktail hour, let me say that when we barely even came within 10 feet of it, we were immediately separated and surrounded by guests. I never actually entered my cocktail room or anything, just stood in the doorway. I really dont think that not going to cocktail should be a regret b/c I would have rather had that moment to spend with my DH then being immediately surrounded and not being able to move.

OH and I should have put out ' Please take one'' or something b/c many of the things we put out for our guests like a fortune teller etc, no one took! And I wish I had told the guests to pull out the flowers at the bottom of the centerpieces if they wanted to take some home b/c I was sitting on the floor in my wedding dress pulling them out and handing them to people as we went into cigar hour. I didnt want them to go to waste (the people said they would just get thrown out) and people were glad to have them, but its however many minutes of my wedding I won't get back.

Thank god one of my bridesmaids noticed that oheka didnt put out the rest of the cd wedding favors and had them go get the rest out or those would have all gone to waste too!

Re: Wedding regrets......

My number one regret is not getting a videographer. We didn't want the big bulbs of lights in our face, but I regret not being able to hear our band again or watch our guests dance the night away. I feel like the reception was a blur.

Overall, I was really happy with our flowers, and our florist did a beautiful job, but my bo-k was not quite what I wanted. I wanted big bulbs of hydrangeas and not pieces of hydrangeas. I would have also liked to have seen more blue in the bridesmaid bo-ks. Still, the overall look of the flowers were gorgeous. I think I had trouble articulating what I wanted to my florist.

I also wish I had placed my hairpins in a little better. I can only see one or two of them in my photos.

I guess nothing is perfect like they say, but the day was still the happiest day for us!

Re: Wedding regrets......

Our wedding was wonderful. And we were also very lucky with our vendors. Not a single one of them disappointed us. But of course, there are some things that I wish I had done differently (althougth, thankfully, as time goes by, I am forgetting them more and more)-

#1- I should not have cut my hair a month before the wedding. With the layers, my hair dresser had a hard time recreating what we had decided on at the trial. It looked good, but it looked better with more hair.

#2- I wish I had added the 1/2 hour onto the cocktail hour. We got married at the hall, so it started right after the ceremony which was very good for the guests. However, since so many family members came from across the country, we took a lot of family shots. I do not regret those. There are people that attended the wedding that I may never see again. However, because it really ate up time, we didn't get as many shots of the two of us as I would have liked. The ones our photographer took were very good. I just would have liked more.

#3- I wish I had organized my wish bowl guest book better. Not everyone knew about it. I ended up having my mom keep it out at my parents after party so that more people would sign the cards. (Although when I put the book together there were enough cards--but some key people missed it.)

#4- I should have brought a trusted friend or family member with me when selecting my hair piece. I bought one at the bridal store without anyone there and ended up hating it weeks before the wedding. (It is pretty, but it wasn't the look I wanted.)

This happened to us, too. DH saw family that he wanted to say hello to and took off like a shot, even though we had discussed sticking together and saying hello to the guests during that time. I never made it past the bar, into the room where the food was, so I never even saw how it was set up!

I think I got one drink and 2 of the passed apps., but that's it.
