Wedding regrets......

Original post by hbradio

These have been on mind so much lately....and reiterated last night when I watch MCDO's show because I saw what a nice relationship they had with some of their vendors.....

I would have chosen my 2 cousins as BMs instead of readers. Then I would have counted out my 3 college friends (they didnt do anything bad to me at all but I just wish I chose my cousins) Everytime I see them it breaks my heart a little more. I made the decision on who was going to be a BM too quick.

I would have researched flowers a bit more. I was very disappointed in the outcome.

I would have had someone pass my guestbook around so that everyone could have signed it. Not even half the guests did! What a waste.

I would have put tags on the table cameras. They were a last minute addition and I couldnt be bothered to write instructions. I thought everyone would just know what to do....

I would have done something extra like the slipper basket. I thought I couldnt do it because there was more than one wedding going on at the time. DUH I could have just had it in the reception room!

And while my proofs are awesome I 'forgot' to take a professional picture (or even an amateur one) with my 2 cousins I mentioned above (they even joked the other day and said lets all put our dresses on and take a picture!) as well as some guests that I am very close to. Too much on my mind at the time I guess!

Adding another after reading Lisa's: I would have insisted that we didnt go with a family friend for our DJ too. While he was great - there were some things I would have preferred done differently and I didnt feel comfortable dicussing these things with him. He is the best man's brother and I knew that the best man would have stuck his nose in things and it would have become a bigger issue than necessary.

There are a few other little things but these are the ones that stick out the most. I know its dumb to even dwell on these things cause they cant be changed but they just have been bothering me so much lately!

Anyone else have any regrets??!?! Maybe the brides to be can read this and not make the same mistakes!

Re: Wedding regrets......

my main regret:

NOT preparing for an indoor ceremony. I really thought it would be outside. And that's all I would tell myself. I'm having an outdoor wedding, the outdoors will be pretty enough that I don't need anything else.

And now, when I see my ceremony pictures and my BP walking down the aisle, I cringe, because I just HATE the way it looked.

I should have at least acknowledged the possibility of rain or cold weather and prepared for it. blah.

other regrets:

I should have touched up my makeup by the time the cake cutting and all that came about. I look horrible in those pictures because I was hot and sweating and I've got a shiny face and I HATE SHINY FACES!

I regret not having a must take photo list. While I wasn't really concerned about it prior to the wedding, I now think back and say, 'Man, I wish I had a picture with so and so.'

I regret not saving one of the menus I made for the reception! I would like to share what I did with you girls, but alas, they are trash.

And I can't really place blame or whatnot, but my Grandma didn't make it to the ceremony because of sucky traffic. She's my only grandparent and showed up just as we were leaving the church. At least I got a few pictures with her. That is my biggest 'regret.'

ETA: I regret not dancing more. I don't know why, but I kept leaving the dance floor, even thought all I wanted to do was be on it.

I'm another one that was mad that I didn't reapply my lipstick more often, or powder my face. In our formal picture and thank-you picture I have NO lipstick on and my face is a big grease pit!

At the rehearsal dinner I wish I hadn't had champagne, wine, a huge slice of very dense chocolate cake, and then coffee. I was so wired when I got home that I didn't fall asleep until like 3am!

I loved my florist but I really wish I had put more thought into the centerpieces. They had a lot of the same flowers as the BMs bouquets and I really would've loved something different (he came up with the centerpiece idea, not me).
My bouquet also didn't come out exactly like I'd wanted (the spray roses were missing).

The thing that bugs me the most is that I wish I'd had more time to look into photographers; being an out of town bride made it difficult to visit vendors. So when I went to check out photographers I only had time to see three. I booked one of them on the spot for fear that they would get booked later on if I waited. I love my pictures but they're not exactly what I wanted (bethsiar's are exactly like what I wanted! )
This will bug me forever........

Not paying for the owner to photograph our wedding ... she did our e-shoot and was excited the dogs would be in the ceremony and said she wanted to be there but then something else came up.

Re: Wedding regrets......

1. I should have added 30 minutes onto our cocktail hour - we took pics for 20 minutes of it and there was so much food that I didn't get to try. I ate as much and as fast as I could LOL.

2. My photographer......while my pics are nice I should have splurged and gone with my first choice, Imagine Studios. I have other issues with them but not going with my gut is what bothers me most.

3. My dress - I loved it and it looked great but I wish I had spent more time shopping and looking b/c I found so many other dresses that were better. I was just in such a rush to get everything done b/c we were house hunting that I just got what I thought was 'the one'.

Re: Wedding regrets......

my regrets - well i would not have gone on the batchelorette party 2 days before the wedding - i got so sick from the food there i felt like crap the day of the wedding and let alot of stuff fall by the wayside cause i wasnt feeling good - things that i really wanted to do didnt get done because our band didnt follow the program

i should have hired a day of coordinator - my event was complicated and with me not feeling good i should have had someone else there - that is my biggest kick in the head moment. after all that work and research alot of it didnt happen.

i would not have used miller place inn. i think they did a really bad job - granted i didnt have a regular type of wedding - but when the bridal party's and the reader's gifts were stolen from the hall they didnt do anything about it - i was promised that these items would be safe by our banquet manager - that obviously was not the case.

i would have had a better back up plan for if it rained - i didnt like having it in the dining room the photos are really dark. we should have had it up on the second floor since only 60 people showed up anyway.

i would not have had my sister's friend in the wedding - she ended up getting really drunk and giving me tons of attitude all day long - i wanted to kill her literally - will never speak to her again. i was trying to honor my sister with her best friend's presence ( my sister died a few years ago) and it ended up being a nightmare - i spent an extra $600 to cut her out of all our photos and our video.

i would have remembered to email the photographer the must have photo list - i didnt get a single photo of me and my godmother - i dont see her that often and i just wanted to kick myself when the proofs came back and there isnt a single one of us together.
aside from that - there isnt mush i regret - even though it rained cause we got some really cool rain pictures with raindrops frozen in midair

1 - Not trusting my gut and hiring someone else to do my cake. I knew SandCastle was going to F*ck it up and they did.

2 - Not reapplying lipstick more often

3 - Wasting the majority of my CH waiting for family to gather around for group pictures. What a waste of time. I look at those shots now and I know they aren't going in the album so what was the point?

I never did any hair or make up trials and I hated my hair! I wanted it down for some reason and it didn't look they way I wanted it. I ended up putting it up b/c I was so hot, and those pictures look a lot better.
We had a family friend take pictures, even though I have beautiful pictures, I wanted more, but I didn't want to ask, I paid nothing for them.
More family pictures...I wanted a picture with every family and didn't get to do that.
My matron of honor was THE BEST! she kept putting lipstick and she was behind me all the time just in case I needed something, until DH and me got into the limo for the hotel; I love her!

I was extremely happy with the way that the day went. My regrets......

1. I would have liked to have had at least one item from my CH. Everyone still talks about the food.

2. I loved my dress and everything, but I just didn't feel like I looked as good as I wanted too that day. Oh well, some things you can't control.

Re: Wedding regrets......

My wedding was as perfect as it could have been.

My only regret I could think of... was I wish I could have changed my Limo arrangements to have one very large limo (like an Escalade)... instead of two smaller lincolns.

Vanessa was originally supposed to get ready at the Fox Hollow.... which was about 20+ minutes from the church so I needed my own limo for the guys.

But then last minute we dumped the Fox Hollow and got a room at the Harrison House which was walking distance to the church so we only needed one limo.

But there weren't any larger limos left for that day... and I would have paid more for one too!

Re: Wedding regrets......

I wish I had had a dinner party with about 30 people instead of larger cocktail reception, b/c frankly older relatives don't 'get' a cocktail reception even after you explain it over and over.

I wish i ATE more at my wedding.

I agree. Everyone says the CH was so good. I was there but I didn't eat a thing. I hope someone get's married there so I can just taste the food

I also regret having my hair so high on my head. I think I look so funny in pics.

Oh, and not getting pics of our grandmas. That is a little upsetting.

Re: Wedding regrets......

Our wedding was beautiful, and looking back, I loved it.

I do, of course, have my regrets.

1. The Photographer. I should've made arrangements to meet with her more than a few days before the wedding, because I would've had time to CHANGE to another photographer then! Also, I would not have allowed her to take me off the dance floor, but I was so exhausted by that point that I wasn't thinking straight. Geez, I could probably go on and on and on about the regrets with her. (I'm going to finally write a review soon, I swear. I'm waiting to get my album and then I'll give my FULL Attention to the matter)

2. I wish I'd hired a DOC. SOMEONE who knew everything besides me. Every decision had to be run by me and I was so stressed out over B!tch Photographer Woman that every little thing made me freak out. If I'd had a DOC she would've kept the BPW in line, gotten all my pictures, and kept me calm.

3. I wish I'd hired Wild Rose Video. Their work that I've seen is incredible. I just feel like my video is lacking. During the ceremony, all you see is us. What about my Bridesmaids who were passing a tissue up and down the line because they were all crying? What about all my family and friends?

4. I wish I'd made my cocktail hour CD sooner and given it to the DJ before the day of. Giving it to one of the GMs and putting him in charge of it ended up being a mistake. Only half the CD got played.

5. I wish I had asked someone more attentive to watch the makeup issue. By the end of the day my makeup was a bit of a mess (from all the crying, freaking out), and everyone was so worried about keeping me calm and making sure I could enjoy myself that my makeup was the *last* thing on their minds. This goes back to #2, because if I'd had a DOC she would've noticed.

Honestly, the first two are the ones that *really* put a damper on my day, mainly because I spent so much of it freaking out and crying. Once again, hiring a DOC probably would've alleviated all of that. But most of the people there didn't really know about all that went wrong. DH said 'There was so much awesome that when something went wrong no one noticed.'

ETD for typo.

Re: Wedding regrets......

Hmmmmmmmm, this is a tough one. I really was so pleased with our wedding. However:
I think I would have had a smaller bridal party (or change some members of it). Also, I would have called the bakery after the wedding to tell them that they did not put on the fondant bows that I paid extra for! I also would have invited more friends. I was so worried about cost, and so many relatives didnt come that I could have had more friends. I also would have had some more pics taken with my bridal party.

Re: Wedding regrets......

i have some regrets too

#1 - I wish I had really tried to savor every last minute of the wedding --I was so sad after it was over --I had a great time but feel as though I missed so much of it...

#2 - I should have trusted my gut and had an outside bakery make our cake. The Carltun charged me extra for my cake and it looked nothing like it was supposed to!

#3 - I wish I had taken pictures in one of the rooms at the Carltun (the Gallery) --I should have been more specific with the photographers as to the pictures I wanted.

#4 - I wish I ate the wedding cake and had some dessert or had the Carltun wrap up some dessert for us. I didn't even get a chance to walk around and look at all the desserts.

#5 - I wish I had told the band to make an announcement telling our guests to take the flowers. I was so upset at the end of the night that no one was taking the flowers and they told me that they would be thrown away.

#6 - I didn't take pics with some of my friends - I also wanted pictures of me and some of my bridesmaids alone (not all the BMs together) and we didn't get them.

Re: Wedding regrets......

I don't have many regrets...

I do regret my choice of florist...but I digress. I also regret our decision to not making one of my readers a groomsman. He did more for my husband and I than one of the other groomsman. Grr...

Other than that, I regret that my wedding is over. I had the BEST time and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!
