I was thinking of getting a pair of these for a friends upcoming bridal shower. She and her DH are not registering for much.
Does the mother of the bride or a certain family member usually get this item for the bride???
Is it OK that I give it (I'm just a friend of hers, really of the FH)

I don't think anyone specific buys them! I put them on a registry and a friend of my MIL got them for me! Every shower I have been too different people ( in relation to the bride) have purchased them!

I don't think it matters who buys it. My sister got me mine, but my friend got one from her friend.

Definitely no etiquette on this - I had three sets Got one from a friend for our engagement, one from my aunt for our engagement and another from my brother for Christmas. We put all three out at the wedding (and I was so glad we did - each of them noticed that we used their glasses )
