Had very high expectations....

Had very high expectations....

from my photos. I got my proofs. They capture the entire day - a lot of them are beautiful - but I was expecting more. I'm very happy but not thrilled with them!

Some shots - Rosalie (my DOC) were such potentially beautiful ones - and she captured them better than my photographer did sometimes!

I know a lot of the pics were taken out - so I called them back to ask why - probably b/c of a blink or out of focus.

I got just under 600 proofs. They didn't bother looking at them to make some black & white, etc.
They did in some others proof books.

My parents say they are very nice but standard wedding pics - nothing too artistic or clever!
Maybe I'm being too critical - but I was so excited about these pics. I tried doing so much research to obtain the style pics I wanted. I don't know - at exactly 5:30pm my photographers said good-bye.

I'm so frustrated!!!

ETA: He had an assistant with him. There were absolutely no pictures from cocktail hour - and we left the photoshoot early to greet our guests.
We have not one picture from CH.

ETAETA: Thinking about it - I really needed to arrange myself - that day - the shots I wanted.
Like - 'Bridal party - everyone cheer!' For that fun disorganized shot. As it is I was making recommendations.

ETA#3: I can't believe how two people can do so much research and not obtain the results desired. I know this is bad - but I keep thinking 'maybe I should have gone with photography company A - then I'd have more of the photojournalistic shots - like the ones that are angled'

During one shoot, the photographer had us walking away from him - and I'm thinking 'Oh, these are going to be great shots - for the end of the album'.
Little did I know he had a lense on the camera that disorts the image - making the center sharp and the outsides blurry.

IMO the whole picture looks blurry and I would rather have had a decent picture, no effect - but all sharp.

I'm going to ask to see the photos they took out.

I know exactly how you are feeling. At least you get just under 600 proofs I do not even get 300. The sad thing about mine is that I have to chose 40 for our album and 20 for the parents album and I am thinking to myself I do not have that many choices.

I can relate.
I was very disappointed with our photographer. We only got 260 proofs, none from the CH, and a lot with a $hitty background, considering the beautiful area.
My mom was in a total of 2 pics from the reception. I still get depressed when I look at other brides reviews and see such gorgeous proofs.

Ask guests to give you copies of pics they took - we got some of our best candid shots from friends!

Re: Had very high expectations....

I received 350 proofs. We took a lot of pics outside of church bc the clouds were not looking that good So the scenery was weird. Overall the pics came out pretty good. We need 60 for our album and I have 180 that I want inside the album. Some pics that I really wanted though were messed up but I cant do anything about it now. I had such a huge bp that not everyone was looking in the bp shots. But I guess that is what comes along with 21 people ina bp.

I didn't receive that many pics and mine weren't creative or artistic at all. It happens... I'm glad my friends took so many pictures.

I can relate as well. After I got my proofs I cried for a few days because I kept saying to myself 'Why didnt we go here for pics... why didnt we do this shot,... I should of given them more print outs of shots I wanted', etc and then I realized that its over and there is nothing I can do to change things. I didnt get many artistic pics either and was really upset about that too. I guess we just have to make due with what we have though because we cant change it now

eta.. it takes 2 seconds to make a color photo into b&w so dont worry about that.. just call them and they can make any of those pics into b&w.

Every time I think I am over my pics, I get upset again. It actually keeps me off this site since I see such beautiful and artist shots by the SAME photographer and mine were just ok. There are no close ups of DH and me, no pics with my mom, or grandma with me alone, and there are way too many of just me(the LAST thing I wanted and stressed). So even though they are not disasterous- there are many that I love, they are certainly not what I wanted or expected.

I can relate on the cocktail hour thing as well... Although we ended up with over 2000 proofs from 2 photogs and an assistant, there is not ONE shot of our cocktail hour. We missed the CH to take formal shots, so I was looking forward to seeing what it looked like. I think our videographer got it though, so I'm looking forward to that. I emailed my photographer about why this happened and he wrote, 'As I was shooting formals, Jeremy was setting up lights and shooting decor of the reception. So we weren't able to shoot coctails. I would have shot some after the formals, but that took the entire hour. Usually decor is more desireable than coctails, since coctails rarely end up in the album but decor shots usually do.' Fair enough, but I still wish I had a few.

Oh Peacock...I'm so sorry. We didn't see our proofs yet, just the few they posted on the website...I'm very nervous about this.

I know how frustrating it is to be so disappointed with photo and video results.

I know excatly how u feel. I gave my photographer so many pics that i got from this site and other sites just to give ideas on the kind of shots that i wanted. I didn't get any of them. I did get a few good ones, but nothing where u can say 'WOW'.

I really think as great as they have been, their quality has gone down hill.

BTW: you are one of the brides pics I was talking about silly! I thought yours were beautiful!!!!!!

Re: Had very high expectations....

Sorry to bump an old post... my daughter and I are researching photographer/videographer, and I'm reading that some recent brides were disappointed with theirs. I did FM them but I don't know if they still check the boards.

If anyone knows who they are referring to, or has contact with one of these former brides, could you FM me, or ask them to post or FM me? Their profiles don't list the name, it just says to FM for info.

It must really hurt to get your proofs or view your video and be so disappointed. I know sometimes great shots are missed or bumbled, but to be so overall sad about the pics.... wishing we can all avoid that.

Thanks!

Re: Had very high expectations....

I don't know who they were referring to, sorry!

But we did a few things to guard against this:

1. We looked through multiple proof albums, not just one that they wanted us to see.

2. We expressed, in no uncertain terms, that we wanted photojournalistic style upon the first meeting, contract signing, and a week before the wedding.

3. When giving them the list of portrait combinations we wanted, we reiterated the styles we wanted at the top of the page.

4. We had a line put in the contract about having the original, unedited RAW digital files put on a DVD and given to us at no additional charge. We also had the edited files that were used to do the proof album on CD.

5. We took a month and interviewed no less than 5 photographers.

What you could do here too is look through some of the ladies' albums and if you see something you really like, FM them for the name/company.

Good luck!

We did all of the above, and still VERY unhappy with photog. pictures were extreamly important to us, and the quality and creativiness just was not there on my wedding day and the proofs show it. I have not looked at my proof books in months and months, and have absolutely NO desire to compile an album.

DH hates, hates, hates when I look at the proofs because I cry and it puts me in a bad mood for days.

If you click on their proflies, some still have their photographers listed. Sherwood Triart, Duet, B rett M athhews and Marcos were used by some of the posters.

So, was this a photographer that you saw his work beforehand? I wonder how old the proofs were that he showed you. You would never think that they would be so different - their old work and their new work - but you're proof that it's possible!

Can you FM me the name? I've seen you reference this before, I'm curious to see their website. Then again, they probably only have the best stuff up on the web, right?
