I am being plagued by my dress. long vent.

some of you may have read on another thread that the cost of my dress is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than what I expected...to the tune of

$3250.00 all told

now, for some girls that might not seem like a lot, BUT I would NEVER EVER EVER have spent that much money on my dress. I went the dressmaker route thinking I would save money, and compared to the dress I am 'modeling' mine after, I am (by about $2000). BUT had I known remaking that dress would cost me this much, I would have picked a different one. I don' even want to see it anymore. everytime I see it, it just looks like a WASTE to me. and not that it's not beautiful, it IS, but I didn't want to spend to much on something I will never wear again. I would have much prefered to purchase some really nice jewelry, that I could wear on my day and on days to come, and remember that I wore it on my wedding day. but now I can't even do that.

I have no idea how to come up with the extra money ( I am COMPLETELY against having fh pick up the slack, even though he may have to) it's just all completely wrong and I am really sad about it. now I even wonder if the first thing he will think when he looks at me is 'THAT costs $3000'- not that he will, but I can't help but think it.

sorry for the vent....I just never expected to be so depressed about my wedding gown, of ALL things...

awh, you know that made me sad - just reading it.

let me just say this, you never did this before! you had no idea what you were getting into - and **** happens.

At the end of the day you have a beautiful dress that was made just for you - by someone I believe is in your family.... is that right? It is extremely special and lucky that you had that opportunity.

I'm sure your dress is worth every penny...and your FH will be in awe of you come your wedding day when he sees you in it...I know how you feel about the whole 'wearing it once' deal...my line this whole wedding planning is 'one day....one day' - but when it comes down to it...weddings are an expensive soiree to throw...no matter where you try to cut corners...

look at this way - you still are ahead of the game - you had a designer dress made for less than what it goes for in the stores - $2,000 is ALOT of money to save....cheer up...

I agree completely with Laurie, Jess. Great advice.

I went in thinking my dress was going to be $500, and walked out paying $900. It happens.

I know your scale is not comparable to my scale when it comes to the money, but I just bulked it up, paid it, and have it now and don't regret a thing....

I think once you have it in your hands for keeps, your sentiment will change.

Ohh Jess..I am sorry your feel that way.....few months ago I felt the same way about my dress....but in the end it was the dress that I fell in love with....

it is a special day for you and the dress will be worth every penny once you put in on and your FH sees you in it (you look beautiful in it)....you will look back 10 years from now, look at your pictures and know that you have made the right decision.....

Jess you will look amazing, I know it's a hard pill to swallow right now, but I have no doubt it will all be worth it in the end.

$2k is a BIG savings. I know you don't want to spend $3k, but you're basically getting the dress of your dreams for a big dicount. It will be beautiful and YOU will be beautiful in it!

Don't be upset. Your dress is going to be beautiful and worth every penny. Money is just depressing in general and everyone has those feelings of spending too much whether it be on their dress, photographer, hall, etc. It will all be worth it the day of your wedding, and remember, you are saving money.

they didnt' give you an idea of the cost?

i got my prom dress custom made and she told us an approximate.

i'm so sorry...but from what i've seen it's gorgeous ...

what if your FH looks at you and say... 'wow. it looks like it was 10,000!' then that looks like a deal!

i know what you mean I had noo intentions in buying an expensive dress and it drove me crazy. I had to look it up on the internet a few times to see how beautiful it is to help me feel ok about. I tried to justify it by offering to my sister when she is ready to wed. Which of course she wants her own. This is what I told myself and what you need to tell yourself. That it is a beautiful dress and you look beautiful in it and you only have one wedding. It is too late to go back so enjoy your beautiful dress.

oh jess - dont feel so down. its your wedding dress - you will look beautiful - even if it cost you more than you planned!!! FH will be so stunned by how gorgeous you are - he wont even be thinking about anything else.

- just in case some else in considering having their dress custom made - I wanted to butt in and say this is not necessarily true. In my case, I am paying far less then $2,000.

not to sound like a snot..but i had the same problem...i was looking to spend between 6 or 7K and i walked out with it being 12K..i had buyers remorse for a while but the way i look at it...its one day in my life and it couldn't have been a more perfect dress....just go with it and enjoy...i hate buyers remorse...

Sorry about your dress, that stinks.
You can ask to see if the dressmaker can sell the dress and then you can go buy at dress off the rack. There are sales at Macy bridal salon or Davids.

and don't forget there is always ebay...you can always put for sale on ebay..(that is what I am thinking about doing) to get something back for the dress....lol...

I hear what your saying in that you never would have spent that much however, it is your wedding.. once in a lifetime... and now you will be an exceptional bride in a beautiful gown made just for you....

who knows.. some people make their childrens ceremonial outfits out of them and then it will be even more memorable....

and as far as your FI... I am assured that he will only say that you look amazing.... men are simple minded that way
