Did anyone not have a video for their wedding and regret it.
I really don't want one, mainly cause of the money, but alot of people say you'll regret.... We are using 12th Night for our photographer and they will give us a DVD slideshow, which is nice. Your thoughts.......

My advice is to get one! Cut corners somewhere else if you have to. You don't have to go fancy and get an edited copy with music and whatnot, even if it's just the raw footage of the day. The day goes by so incredibly fast, a video is a great way to recapture the day and see things you missed throughout the day.
I have both an edited and unedited video, and honestly, I LOVE the raw footage because it's all there.

We didn't get a video and I don't regret it. Yeah, it might be cool to see the party from another perspective (in addition to our own and the photographer's), but I have wonderful memories and photographs and I think there's something to be said for not being able to go back and watch the moment again. We chose to splurge on a fabulous photographer instead. I took our digital proofs and made a slideshow in iMovie for each set of parents. If you really want a video, it's something you should try to work out in your budget, but if you don't think you'll ever watch it (like me), you may be better off putting that money to better use.

Absolutely. Even my DH regrets it. So much happened that we didn't get to see. I wish I had been able to have one, but I decided to surprise my Dh with the cigar roller instead. I had my brother video tape our ceremony and he got the best mans speech, but I don't have me dancing with my father or him with his mother, or our first dance. I wished I had one.

Re: Did anyone not have a video for their wedding and regret it.
pictures and a photo montage are two different things and really shouldnt be compared...
video is worth it cause it shows so much more...
you are spending 30+ thousand dollors on everything else about your wedding, i think you should be able to budget 5 percent of your budget to capture the day that will only come once
i had a chance to be on tv with my wedding and it was the best decsion we did...so in addtion to our dvd, we have a tv show to show stuff even before the wedding...
pricesless imo

agreed completely...we had a relative tape the ceremony and honestly, i have no interest in watching that...i lost my voice the day before the wedding...so i especiallly don't care to see it! we both knew we wouldn't want to watch it...so we didn't bother...and we haven't looked back! the pictures are so amazing and the memories we have are more than enough!

You should get one. It's one of those things that you like to watch all the time. My co-worker says that she shows her video to her kids and they love it. I still watch my Bat-Mitzvah video from 15 years ago.

I dont think a video shows MORE than a video. I think it shows things DIFFERENTLY. When a person looks at a picture, they are able to focus on that one emotion captured in that picture for more than a few seconds. They can remember exactly how they felt at that ONE moment in time. In a video, that same moment captured in film is over so quickly and then the editing brings you to something or someone else. It allows for a different type of reflection. Sure you can freeze-frame video, but the purpose of video is not the same. It's purpose is fluid motion.
My albums are not complete yet and my video footage is still in its raw form, however, I will be more inclined to sift through pictures myself or with company, before I will break out the video. Thats not to say I regret having video. I am glad I had it. My point is that pictures can be just as wonderful - just different.

I look at my video more than album. I don't want to ruin my album. When we got our video there were things that I didn't get to see. Wild Rose got such different things and it was nice to see that. I am glad we got it. we probably should have even got the raw footage because I am sure there are other things I forgot about too.

I didn't spend near 30K either.
We decided early on not to have a professional video done.
We don't regret it.

Re: Did anyone not have a video for their wedding and regret it.
We didn't have a video and don't regret it at all. We wanted to have the absolute best photographer possible, so we put out money towards that and I couldn't be happier.
I will probably get flamed for this, but I'll say it anyway. I'm glad I don't have a video to watch because I don't want or need to re-live my wedding day. I don't need to see things I 'didn't see' on my wedding day because I have a perfectly wonderful set of memories of the things I did see, and it's so nice to hear stories from my friends and guests about their memories. I guess I was just never the kind of bride that was going to dwell on the wedding. I have my pictures (which will be nice to look through) and that's more than enough for me and my DH. We almost felt that having a video would take away from our memories of the day a little because they're just that, memories...not something I need to see played out on a screen for me. Just my opinion....

There are so many other things that you can spend that money on... I would skip the video. We skipped it because I really didn't want it. My uncle and a family friend videotaped our wedding and that's more then enough for me It was good to see it 'in action', but the pictures we have (thousands between the photographer and our family and friends) that I don't think we missed much.
You can get table cameras and put them out - our even the disposable video cameras that they sell now... it'll save you lots of money.

Re: Did anyone not have a video for their wedding and regret it.
I am so happy we got a video. The day went so fast and was such a blur, that I didn't have any time to fully take in what was going on. We got our video this past weekend and I loved watching it. It was amazing to hear DH say his vows to me again - to hear the love in his voice. I loved seeing my reactions and how happy and in love we both were. Yes, I did see these emotions in the photos, but it just wasn't the same as hearing them and seeing the movement. Yes, the memories are fresh now, as none of us got married that long ago. But memories will fade, no matter how wonderful they are. But with the video, we can relive the day over and over again. We can show our kids... I know I would have loved to seen my parents wedding.
In the end, its a decision you have to make. But I would tell you to definitely get one.

Re: Did anyone not have a video for their wedding and regret it.
i would say that even if you don't get a professional video, at least get somebody tape the weddnig for you. the whole day is SUCH a blur... DH and i were sitting in our hotel room that night like ' what just happened today??' so its really nice to have it on tape and actually hear what the minister said, hear the best mans toast, etc- all the priceless stuff the pictures don't show. we got lucky and had my best friends dad tape it. he has a digital camcorder, so he put it on DVD with us with scene selection and everything. he came to the rehearsal to figure out the best place to stand, etc. hes very relgious, so he doesnt' drink or dance, so even taping some of the reception didn't ' ruin' his time. i would definitely look into at least getting somebody to tape it- maybe even a local college film student or something. you could even buy a nice camcorder for a couple hundred dollars for them to use, and then you'll have the camcorder to tape other things after the wedding.... but defnitely get it on video somehow! like somebody else said- you're doing all this planning, you'll want to be able to go back to it when its all over

that pretty much sums up my thoughts on the subject.
your photos are awesome BTW.

Do what's right for you. Some people get their video and watch it over and over again . We did have it done and I actually had anxiety about watching it. I've watched it once with DH - but I honestly have had no desire to watch it again. I'm sure we will on our annivesary (maybe).
In retrospect, I don't see the video as being necessary - really the only part I cared to watch was the ceremony.

Re: Did anyone not have a video for their wedding and regret it.
Like so many other things involved in a wedding, you should consider other people's opinions but don't take them as gospel. Everyone is different (as evidenced here by the variety of opinions) and you can't expect to feel the exact same way as anyone else.
If you think your memories, stories and photos will not be enough, then get a videographer.
Thankfully, my husband and I agreed from the beginning that we didn't want it. My sister's in laws videotaped the ceremony and my niece singing and it was very nice.
We just felt like there was a potential for the video to be a cheesy thing, an annoyance, and didn't want to spend the money on something like that.
We don't have regrets.

Re: Did anyone not have a video for their wedding and regret it.
Photography and Video were two our top priorities. I have amazing pictures and great memories but the day did go by in a blur and I can't wait to see my video to see what I missed. I also wanted both because in the end after all is said is done those are the only two things you have left- well other than a loving husband!
