My grandmother passed away July 19, 2005. She gave me her mothers diamond ring and my FH took the diamond and put it in a new setting for me. I was wondering how you guys are honoring the loved ones that have passed? I know they have memorial candles, but for her it doesnt seem like enough. Thanks

those are great ideas...my FH and I have no grandparets still with us and I was thinking of having their wedding pictures up, or at least some pics of them, maybe with us as kids, and a nice candle.

At the ceremony instead of a sad memorial my FH and I are going to write down our best memories of all of our grandparents who have passed and assign someone in the family to read them. At the reception I am going to have a table with all of their wedding pictures on it.

My Father and my FH's Father passed away. We are donating $$ to the American Cancer Society and probably Heart Assoc. as my favor. I am going to make scrolls and put them on each place setting with a treat

At the church we mentioned them in the prayer of the faithful and at the reception we had a video montage.

Re: How to Honor Ones that have Passed?
I've heard of memorial candles and tables with a few pictures of people who have passed and a nice saying. Also I saw on Bo-K's that some brides have a little dangle charms with a picture of a loved one who has passed so it's like they are with them on their wedding day. I was looking for the picture I sawa a while ago but I can't seem to find it.

I had a poem in my program and we also placed candles on a table.
We thought of you with love today But that is nothing new We thought about you yesterday And days before that too We think of you in silence We often speak your name Now all we have is memories And your picture in a frame Your memory is our keepsake With which we'll never part God has you in his keeping We have you in our hearts In Loving Memory of

We had a memorial table ( There's a pic in my album). I got pictures of my Mom (far right), DH's Grandma (Center), and My friend Heidi who would have been a bridesmaid (Far left). We had a candle that had a simple yet sentimental prayer on it and I got two corsages and a small bouquet to place in front of their pics. It was very sweet but not too morbid or over the top. A LOT of people commented on it.

For my 'parent dance' we will be having a montage of photos to the song 'Always' by Patsy Cline. Both of my parents have passed away. I will dance with my dad's best friend and halfway through the song the MC will invite parents to come onto the floor with their children or granschildren.

I was thinking of doing this but do you think that it will make people upset? I dont want to go overboard with the memorial to cause people to be upset. I love this idea just not sure if others would.

I would have thought this would be too emotional too, but, at my sisters wedding she had a picture of our dad, our grandparents and my brother in law's grandparents at a separate table....a lot of people didn't even notice the pictures, which to me was surprising. For me, I think the pictures are a lot better than saying something at the reception or doing a dance for them, b/c that would definitely get me emotional. Pictures are more subtle.

I love that one-- we will be doing something similar and i'm not sure what yet along with it. i know i like the idea of having roses in the shape of a heart and putting that on a seat at the church-- b/c that will take the place of our friend who would have been there (he is special to us b/c we feel he is the reason we met)... then for other relatives like our g-parents we will have a memory candle lit during our mass-- they will be brought over to the RH and put on a table with pics of our g-parents. other than that we are doing a donation to madd in honor of our friend (the one we are reserving the spot for at the church).... and that's it.
i did see at a wedding recently little guardian angel pins were put in each program with a lovely poem 'someone is missing' and then everyone wore the angel pins-- it was SO touching.

My dad's girlfriend is pretty amazing...so respectful of my mom, who passed 5 years ago. She cut a piece of my mom's wedding dress and had it sewn within mine.

I think it is a nice way of remembering them - rather than saying their name during the ceremony. The pictures will be at the enterance of the ball room so people can glance at them on thier way in w/o making a big deal about it.

I will have a memorial candle lit at the church next to my mom in honour of my dad. I am also making a donation card that has a letter that I wrote to my dad printed in - it will be tucked into everyone's napkins so that they see it and know that a donation has been made in his honor. I also am having a picture of me and my dad from when I was a little girl silk screened onto material and having my aunt sew it to the inside of my dress near my heart.
