So I went to see a DJ last night with FH and we can't decide on whether or not to go with a light show.
I want things to be elegant but at the same time I think the lighting might add a little to the room?
So confused!
ETA: If you don't mind sharing your opinion on why you're having it or not having it I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Re: DJ: Light show or no light show?
I would get it if you are having party that has a lot of young people. I would maybe have the first half be the more elegant part of the party. Halfway through (after people have a couple of drinks in them) start the lights. Just a suggestion if you want the lights.

Yea I was thinking of doing that but then for the amount of money it would cost to add the lights and to only have them going for an hour or so would really suck cause it's not cheap.

We are having lights that will be going on constantly. We are not having a light show that will just go on for 1 hour. I personally would rather pay for something that is continuous than something for just a short period of time.
We are having 4 stands that light up with lights that go on top of the stand. I think my company calls it concert lighting.

yea that's basically what we would be having to. It's not just like on light show or anything it would go on through the whole reception from my understanding (whenever music is playing that is)

we like the light show that our DJ has, so we'll be doing that as well. but it won't be a club the entire time...lol....but still add a party atmosphere!

Im not. I want everything a little more subdued.
A lightshow, to me, is more Sweet 16 than a wedding.
Its just too much and not worth the $$.

Re: DJ: Light show or no light show?
We had a light show at our wedding.....and it was absolutely spectacular. I know from going out, who dances when it is bright in a room. I think the lighting setup made it a lot funner for the guests. There was not one song where the floor was empty. I'm not talking club lighting, but we did have some special effects. There is a fine line between cheesy and classy, don't cross it.

We aren't having a huge light show- just the basic lights. Honestly, to us, it isn't worth the money- how much are people going to remember that in the end? We just wanted a DJ who plays what we want, no giveaways, no group dances and no in you face MC. OUr family and friends are partiers so everyone will still have a great time without us spending more $$$

Re: DJ: Light show or no light show?
Dumb question, but what exactly do you mean by light show?
We're interviewing DJ's now and we're probably going with intelligent lights and requesting that they don't make them go crazy like a club, just lights that move around the dance floor with the music... not during meal times or during cake cutting etc.
Do you mean this or like a specific thing where they do something special with the lights?

I think we're just going to do a basic package without lights.

No I'm talking about the intelligent lighting. If we wanted the big light show which includes like a choreographed light performance thing that's an extra $1200
