We had our tasting tonight and decided our menu. All of the food was very good. The waitress was excellent. I didn't try the cocktail hour food, but we tried a number of 1st course choices and entree choices. The steak is great. You barely needed a knife to cut it. They made a special swordfish w/salsa dish and that was great (or so I heard, I don't eat fish). We also had the salmon which was just great. The chicken dishes were good, but I wasn't wowed by them. But the quality of the chicken was great. I also tried to Crepe dessert and it was really good. I am having a very rich wedding cake so I wanted a less-sugary dessert. Also, the cocktail room/reception room door was opened and the cocktail room was decorated very differently than the last time I saw it. It looked much better than it did that day. The tables had pretty jars and touches on them. I am still undecided about the 'wall' being opened or closed. I need to speak to Lori when she gets back and hear what her experience was with it. But I thought I would let all you Hamlet brides know the food was really good and service was excellent.

I'm here Michele!
I knew you'd be pleased with the food...it was all delicious. (I thought)
The wall looked fine when I was there too. Denise told me that she saw your post and she said not to worry about the wall. The day you came in, they had just finished a golf outing so the room wasn't exactly in 'wedding shape'.
I full have confidence in the Hamlet! Now I'm just waiting for Oct. 13th!!
How did you like Brian? I thought he was really nice and full of suggestions.
Glad you were happy with everything!

I'm here - I'm probably the newest Hamlet Wind Watch bride. Not getting married until 10/25/03. I'm so happy to hear all the good things people are saying.
Good luck everyone!!!

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
I am also getting married at the Hamlet WW on May 24, 2003! I've heard from many people that the food there is great, so I have no worries. I do think the wall, when closed, is a little tacky, but we are opening it after dinner, so I'm sure it will be fine.
Do any of you know how many guests you are having yet? Originally we were going for 180, but I am concerned about the size of it, particularly the cocktail room, and am thinking on cutting back to 160 or 170 (if possible). Any thoughts?

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
zac, ask Denise to be sure....
I invited 192 people - but expected a big cut since a lot were out of state and out of country.
I'm hoping to stay under 150. The room to me seems small, but FH and my parents keep reassuring me it's fine. I'm hoping the weather is nice so people can roam outside.
You're at the end of May...so hopefully the weather will be nice for you too!

That's great to hear that you really liked the food Michelle!
I am having about 180-185 and i am not worried about the size. I went in there to figure out if it would be okay and it seemed fine. Denise also said that it would be okay and i don't think she'd say it if it weren't true.

How exciting Michele I am so jealous, I can't wait for my tasting! I am glad that the cocktail room looked better than the last time you saw it.
I have a question. Did you choose not to try any of the cocktail food or do they not offer that for the tasting?

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
I think the room hold up to 200, but I would not go that high myself. But I am sure the Hamlet knows the room better so it might be set up differently for such a large group. Denise made a comment about my post- but I think I did the right thing. I am loyal to you guys, not a hall. When I was there last I was not told anything about it being set-up for a golf outing. Just 'This is what the cocktail room will look like for your wedding'. I still think the wall should look nicer and am not crazy about the room being opened with mismatched table clothes. If I decide to open it I am going to rent matching linens for that cocktail table area so everything matches.

Oh, Becky- I think some girls ask to try cocktail food. I chose to concentrate on the 1st course and main course instead.

Michelle,
Did you try both chicken's? They offer the same chicken choices at the other Hamlet (Commack) and I heard that it was kind of dry. I was just wondering if you had the same experience with our Hamlet. I know the chef's are different so I thought perhaps that had something to do with it. I did hear that the Filet Mignon was excellent though.

The chicken was not dry at all. Honestly the quality of the chicken breast was great. I was just not crazy about the sauces. They were good, but not as good as the steak.

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
okay, it must just be the other hamlet. perhaps the chef there is not as good. What did you decide on as choices for the cocktail hour? are you doing any of the extras?

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
Honestly the chicken was very good, not dry at all. I didn't upgrade for the seafood bar or carving station because (no offense to anyone) but I feel charging me $600+ for a turkey is insane and $2,000+ for uncooked fish is even more insane. I know, I am paying for the labor, time etc...etc.. but I cannot justify the added expensive for an hour. I don't eat seafood, but I LOVE the way a raw bar looks, especially in the summer time. Plus there I have so much other food that I cannot imagine I will need it. What about you?

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
I don't think that i will opt for any of the extras, because it sounds like there will be plenty of food, and honestly the charge is too much. I know that it is comprable to what other places charge, but I agree completely that it is hard to justify spending that much just for a carving station or some shrimp cocktail. I think that the basic package includes enough.
Is anyone taking pictures on the golf course? We will be taking pictures on the beach between the church and reception, but our photographer wants us to take a picture at 7:30, because of the lighting at that time (in Aug). That will be right in the middle of our cocktail hour, so the pic. will have to be taken on the golf course. Do you know if we are allowed to go and try to find a place to do this before the actual wedding?

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
We're taking pics on the golf course (FH is a huge golf fan) Ask Denise..she knows what holes are the good ones. There's a pond and a bridge on two of the holes...FH is golfing the day before so he's going to check it all out. Plus my photographer said he would go beforehand and scope it all out.
Denise would know though.
I actually liked the chicken. I picked the Chicken Provencal for mine...but the beef was delicious! I'm not doing any extras either...except for the ice sculpture. I agree...the price of a turkey is a little crazy!

What ice sculpture are you doing? I wanted to take photos on the golf course prior to the wedding (since FH is also a huge fan) but I was told that they would not be able to tell me if I was allowed until a week before my date, something about us interupting play on a Saturday at 1:30.

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
As for pictures, the golf course is supposed to be beautiful, and yes, you have free reign of it. They also provide you with a golf 'bus' (not the carts) to take you around the course. I think they hold about 8 people. Just make sure to tell them that you will need one ahead of time.
As for the size of the room... I know Denise says the room can hold 200, but I've checked around with different people. Even my florist (who works there alot) told me, 'I know they tell you 200, but I wouldn't go over 165-180. That is the ideal size for that room.' And I love Denise and all, but when it comes to that, the more people, the more $$. My florist however has nothing to gain or lose. So, that is why I have decided to cut down my guest list.

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
michele,
I am so surprised to hear that. they told us that no matter what, we will be able to use the course. and given how much $$$ they are getting from me, I'll tell you, no one is stopping us, even if they tried.
