Hi ladies! I'd just like to throw a BIG warning out there for anyone considering registering at Target...
My shower was back on the 11th and I received 2 each of 3 items that I registered for at Target (none of the items are marked as purchased twice on my reg even though the buyers said they told them specifically that it was a reg purchase). So I went to the Bay Shore store to try and exchange them for some other leftover items on my registry & the customer service girl was VERY rude to me because 'how could I even try to come in to try to exchange stuff without any gift receipts!?!' I remained calm & nice and she finally cracked and gave me a card so that I could call Target Corp's Guest Relations Dept. directly (she finally admitted that they apparently make some exceptions to their return policy on occasion). Fine, they apparently have a MUCH stricter recturn policy than BBB does, so I tried to comply. Some of the stuff was shipped in from out of state and/or from older relatives, but I did as I should & asked my fam/friends for the receipts but NONE of them still had them. So today I call Target Corp. & nicely explain how there were dupe purchases, how the reg was never updated and how I now have $150 in items I can't use. Their answer? TOUGH!!!! They won't do ANYTHING to help me out even though it's partially their fault (I'll admit that my friends/fam should have kept their receipts). All I was asking for was an even exchange, but all they kept saying was 'I understand, but we can't do ANYTHING' over & over again
So my warning is: beware - their return policy is AWFUL!!! If for some reason you get dupes & your grandma & great aunts didn't hold onto their gift receipts you are SOL

Re: VENT!!! Target Gift Registry
I thought that they supposedly can check stuff through the credit card that was used. Anyone that gave you a gift near by to test this?

Re: VENT!!! Target Gift Registry
THIS IS AWFUL!!! I get so frustrated when dealing with situations like this. Silly question but did you ask to speak with the supervisor on the phone? Typically, the first (and yes, sometimes second) person you speak with doesn't have the authority to help. Another thing would be to go back to the store that you registered and DEMAND to speak with the store manager. Explain that it is their fault for not updating the registry, that your relatives had to go through the humiliation of giving you duplicate gifts and now you should not be stuck with them! Trust me, if you put up enough of an argument, they will give in. I have had to deal with them before and in the end, they gave in at the store.

Thanks...I'm going to ask my FH to call them tomorrow. He can be a lot more.........'firm' than I can be when the situation calls for it

At the store? Really? Excellent - thanks for the tip! I'll make him come with me this weekend then. The girl I spoke with there the other day was WICKED NASTY, but she looked like a young kid who doesn't give a damn...perhaps speaking with the store manager would work....I hope!
I actually wound up speaking with a supervisor when I called today, but I'll make sure he does too when he calls...

Re: VENT!!! Target Gift Registry
Have you tried going to another target store?
After Christmas we had 3 duplicates of a movie and brought them into Target without a receipt, they let us exchange them for something in the same department, so we swapped them for movies and blank CDs. Maybe some stores are more lenient than others?
I would be really upset by how the associate treated you, regardless of the policy, there is no reason to be snotty to a customer, I am sorry you had to deal with that and I would certainly tell the store manager how you were treated.
I hope it gets worked out in your favor.

Re: VENT!!! Target Gift Registry
Wow that ***** big time!!! I can't believe they won't budge, it's their fault. Well I did register there and I'm hoping I don't have the same thing.
Thanks for the heads up, and keep trying. You could destroy their reputation though and they wouldn't like that at all.

I had the EXACT SAME problem. Apparently, their cashiers are morons. I explained calmly, then less calmly, then for a third and fourth time, in the store and on the phone. I called the number they give you. The response I got???
'No one in the entire company has the authority to take your returns.'
So, in the past month, I have singlehandedly cost them 3 registries. That's a minimum of $5000. And I will continue to do so.

Re: VENT!!! Target Gift Registry
I just returned something yesterday to Target from my registry w/o a gift receipt. I had to print up the registry from their computer and she was able to return them for the price my guest paid, by using the registry. See if they can do that! i'm so sorry they gave you a hard time! Good luck!
