I know typically you are not suppose to tip the owner of a beauty salon. I was wondering how many of you get your nails done in a Korean Nail salon and if the owner does your nails, do you tip? Does she/he take the tip?

Re: NWR: Tipping at Nail Salon
Ill be honest, i have never heard of not tipping the owner of a salon. I have heard of not tipping your wedding vendors if they are the owners.
The guy who used to do my nails was the owner and I always tipped and he always took it, if you offer it I doubt they will not accept it.

I never know who owns the place. I assume they all just work there. I always tip and they never have an issue taking it.

Re: NWR: Tipping at Nail Salon
My father owned a hair salon for over 20 years and as the owner he would never accept tips. I also get my hair done at a salon in Manhattan, the owner charges more money to have her do your hair but when you book with her, the receptionist tells you you do not tip her since she is the owner.
You never tip the owner of a hair salon. They don't work on tips, they own the business.

Re: NWR: Tipping at Nail Salon
I have permanent french so it usually cost me more. I tip about $7-10 but then again, I feel like they charge me something different each time.

I tip $7-10 also.....for a plain manicure with no tips I usually tip $3. If it is with a pedicure and I like it I'll tip $5-10.

Mani, Pedi & eyebrows I tip a total of $10. I think $10 is more than enough.

What do you tip for a regular $7 -$8 manicure?

Re: NWR: Tipping at Nail Salon
I always tip $2 for a mani and $3 for a pedi. If I get both, I tip $5 even.
I don't usually have the owner but I know that many people do not tip the owner of a salon because she/he is making much more than the employees.

I think not tipping anyone who does a service to you is ridiculous. Owner or not. Korean or not.

I would take this as an insult if I were doing your nails

Whenever I get my nails done, they always accept my tip.
The girl who does my hair is the owner and she never accepts a tip.

I have never known someone not to accept a tip. If this is the case, then atleast a gesture of a tip would work.

Re: NWR: Tipping at Nail Salon
I have to ask---how come you made sure to title this a 'Korean Nail salon' vs. just a nail salon? Does it make a difference if its Koreans or Vietnamese or American??
and to answer your question--if I am being charged the same amount to my nails by the owner as I am the regular girls--Yes I tip. However like in many hair salons, if the owner is doing my nails and they are charging me MORE to use her, then no I wouldn't tip.
But i'm not sure why it makes a difference being a KOREAN salon

I was thinking the same thing. What does it matter the nationality of the nail salon?

Re: NWR: Tipping at Nail Salon
I have heard of not tipping the owner but I always tip and they always accept. The manicures are $7 and I tip $3, I try to give something in between 20 and 40%, especially if it's not the owner, I don't think they make very much $$.

I only tip Koreans. If they want a tip i have to see the passport.
