I just recently got engaged (12/20/08) and am in the very beginning stages of planning. Quick overview, FH and I have been together 9 years already, so we DO NOT need a long engagement (note the date on my signature is an estimate).
Here's my dilemma. We're having our engagement party on February 15. I have meetings set up this week to look at a few places, but my top two favorites are still available for 2009. One has an opening on August 29, the other has an opening on Sept. 19.
Assuming my church is available and I love the two places, do you think it's feasible to get this all done by then? Also, do you think it's a lot to ask of my guests to plan for the wedding so soon?
Thanks!

Re: New Here and need advice
Congratulations! I think it's completely feasible to have an August or September wedding. I got engaged December 1st, did nothing until February, and had the wedding of my dreams on October 4th (just 8 months later).
I wasn't very particular about a lot of things. I chose 5 things that I was very particular about (invitations, favors, cake, menu and makeup/hair). I wasn't so concerned with the tableclothes, lighting, and other things so I left that to my mom.
The place and date are the biggest things and once you have those, you can start booking other vendors. I understand that many vendors (especially the 'famous' ones) get booked up fast. But do your research and I'm sure you'll be ok if you're flexible.
I know that sometime dresses take a year to come in and I never really understood why.
As for guests, I think it's definitely enough time for them to prepare their travel plans!

Congrats and welcome!!! you can def get everything done in time! just have to make decisions quickly... i would go with the later date though and would get a move on the RH, church and photographer/video! your guests have more than enough notice, all they need to do is get ur gift and show up! (unless its a destination wedding in which case it may be)
HTH Good luck and happy planning!!!!!!

You definitely can! Some people plan weddings in 6 months. As one of the previous ladies said. Figure out what vendors are most important to you and book those first. You may not get the vendor you want. There are a lot of wonderful vendors out there so even if you don't get your top choice....you won't be disappointed. This site is a wonderful tool for researching vendors and seeing their work. Best of Luck to you! Congratulations!

One more thing - don't get freaked out by seeing how far in advanced some people plan things. Everyone works at their own pace and your event will be beautiful even if it seems you should have done something sooner. I know I've gotten anxious at times at what I have left to do. I just know it will somehow all get done.

Thanks girls. I think I can get it all done in time. I work best under pressure anyhow. I pretty much already have my photographer....my sister grew up and is very good friends with the owner of ProLine Studios and he's already told her to have me call when I have a date. I also have about 4 DJ's in mind that I'd like to check out. It's going to be an interesting next few months!

So true! The last 5 weeks before my wedding was when I got about 50% of the stuff done! Many girls on here have all their stuff done months before, but I just wasn't like that!

Congrats!!!!
And I believe you can get it done. If I didnt have to save a year to have this wedding I would have gotten married in 08. So if you are ready and you want to dive right in I think you can pull off a wonderful wedding.

Re: New Here and need advice
Let me tell you, I think the shorter the engagement the better. You must be organized but having a long engagement means being hounded by the details, when your on a short schedule you just make decisions. I think you can definitely do it. My cousin got married last year and only had 10 week engagement. Everything was beautiful including her gown which she purchased right off the rack.

Thanks. Organization is not a problem at all, I'm the QUEEN of organization. I just worry that I'll have to compromise on things that I don't necessarily want to just so I can be an '09 bride.

Congrats! You can definitely do this! I planned my wedding in 5 weeks and I had a lot of details to think about because we had ours in an empty space. Booking a hall cuts down so many details!
Good Luck!

Not to be a debbie downwer....
I think it can be done in a short time no problem BUT I would not have an e-party then. Its a little much to have people go to an e-party, bridal shower, and wedding all in 8 months. No one wants to go anywhere empty handed so its just a lot.
I thin the planning part you will be fine though

Re: New Here and need advice
I think it's definitely feasable. My boss just planned her wedding in 9 months from out of state. Those are busy times though so it may be harder for you to book vendors.
