FH likes to play what I call 'alarm clock olympics'
For example:
Say he has to be up at 7 am.
He sets his alarm for 6:15. He will snooze button, snooze button, snooze button in shorter more frequent bursts. So he will press the button maybe 5 or 6 times before he actually gets out of bed. But this is all planned.
Whereas, if I need to get up at at 7 am... I set the alarm for 7 am and get my body out of bed and awake... at 7 am.
We both have day jobs and when we move in together... we will need to be out of the house at approximately the same time. NEITHER of us are 'morning showerers'. We are both very 'get up and go'. That is... once he's actually 'up' he goes.
This is the ONLY thing I can see as being something I may actually verbally destroy him over out of sheer annoyance and anger. Verbally destory or possibly deck him in the face.
Because yes, its annoying to me... I don't live with him yet but I experience this with him at least once week and have for the past 2 and a half years when we've slept at eachother's places. It's annoying but it also makes me lose 30-45 minutes of sleep.
It'd be one thing if he was setting the alarm ONCE and waking me up ONCE to get up early. Because then I could fall back asleep for 45 minutes. But he's setting the alarm for four/five individual times and not even getting up out of bed. And sometimes, when it gets to 7 am - I still have to be like 'DUDE, AWAKE, PLEASE, GO, NOWWWWW'
I know there's a whole society of you snooze-button goons out there but... I don't feel I'm being unreasonable.
I know he's not doing it to bother me. But the way I see it is that if I got up 45 minutes before HE wanted to b awake and yelled for 30 seconds at a time loud enough to wake him up ... then went back to bed. He'd be quite annoyed.
Are there any other couples out there who have this situation? What can we do to let this not become a problem?
And before you respond:
1. I've already gotten lots of responses elsewhere online but I wanted to hear what you ladies have to say. But 'Just get up and shower when his first alarm goes off' is not what I see as a fair option. Losing 4.5 hours of precious morning sleep per week just because my FH is a zombie in the morning is not what I consider a fair compromise.
I am otherwise open to suggestions.

I really don't have a suggestion for you. I am actually one of those goons and it def pisses FH off and I'm not sure what we're going to do either when we finally live together. While I am one of those goons, I can see how it's anoying, but I can't set the alarm once and just get up, I have never been able to since I was a kid.

Re: HELP ME NOT KILL MY FH.
Im no help either, this is a fight FH and I get into everytime I sleep over-but im the 'goon' lol I need to be prepared, i guess, before i can actually get my body to wake up and physically get out of the bed. I understand completely though how it could be of annoyance. maybe instead he can set his cell phone alarm and put it to vibrate??

Re: HELP ME NOT KILL MY FH.
We have this problem too. I'm the offender. For me, if I set the alarm for the time I actually have to get up, I will STILL do the snooze routine and wind up extremely late for work. nott cool. trying to work on a solution at the moment actually. What we're trying is this:
There are things that FH does that I count on him for because his work schedule is much better than mine. Like, he does the dishes. And food shopping. Before we go to bed, he'll tell me that he's, for example, not going to do the dishes, if I hit snooze more than X amount of times. To be fair to me, the X starts out at a reasonable number and gets incrementally lower. Oh, and just FYI, my high 'X' is FIFTEEN. I'm terrible.
Other things that would work to get me to stop: no sexy time threats, 'i'll leave my socks everywhere and not pick them up' threats, etc.

Re: HELP ME NOT KILL MY FH.
I have this same problem with DH. I whine and push him out of bed until he gets up. He's cranky at first, but eventually it's like nothing happened. We've talked about it a lot as well, and he recognizes that it's not fair, but we're still conditioning him to get up right away. It's a process...a 2 year process...

I'm no help either. FH and I are BOTH offenders of this. I set the alarms for 6:20 and press snooze until he gets out of bed at 6:50. Then I continue to press snooze until I get out of bed at 7:30ish.........
But Elizabeth, I think that's hilarious that your FH has to bribe you, lol.

I am one of those goons! lol I am no help sorry. the only good thing is that.. FH sleeps right through it b/c i dont put mine that loud (and he could sleep through a world war - I am convinced).. his on the other hand is set to half static half radio station and its so louw you can actually hear it outside with the doors and windows shut (yes I have tried this before lol) thank god he isn't like I am b/c that loudness would KILL me every 9 minutes!
maybe if he lowers it a little bit??

Re: HELP ME NOT KILL MY FH.
maybe he's not getting enough sleep? has he tried going to bed earlier? this is my problem also. luckliy FH gets outta bed at the crack of dawn for his teaching job so he doesnt have to listen to my hours of snooze button. however due to some health issues, im tweaking my sleep schedule, and i changed my work hours to come in later. i am not hitting the snooze button as much. Re: HELP ME NOT KILL MY FH.
DH sets two alarms -- one on the clock radio and the other on his iphone. The first one goes off and he gets out of bed and turns it off. When the second one goes off, he gets up.
So, yes, it's a single snooze alarm olympics thingy but it's not bad at all. After a few months of this, I actually sleep through it most mornings now.
Good luck working through your situation! He has to realize that you're a couple and there are some things you need to do for each other.
I used to do the 'listen to the radio in bed' thing for an hour in the morning and DH HATED it so I stopped. Compromise is the key to a happy married life together! Might as well start now!!

Re: HELP ME NOT KILL MY FH.
Well FH & I are both guilty of snoozing-but to be honest-i've gotten used to his alarm going off before mine; and 9 times out of 10 i don't even hear it anymore-or if i do; i can go back to sleep without a problem.

Re: HELP ME NOT KILL MY FH.
I'm of no help either - I'm that *bleep* who smacks the alarm clock off for an hour before I get up. FH sleeps through my alarm now. Guess it helps that both of us hate mornings. My only real advice is that you will eventually get used to it. FH & I have been living together for over 3 years now and we still have our moments of one keeping the other up, but it has gotten better. I think it will just take some time for you to get used to his sleeping patterns (and I don't mean just a few days here and there, I mean rare to spend the night apart). Hang in there, things will likely get better!
Oh, and I've given this advice before, but it never hurts to share it again: if all else fails, there's always duct tape.

Re: HELP ME NOT KILL MY FH.
I want to kill FH every morning when he does this, too. And I live with him. There's really no way to avoid it, I just train myself to sleep heavier and park him on the alarm clock side of the bed so he has to deal with it!

Re: HELP ME NOT KILL MY FH.
It's funny, my FH and I live together and he has his morning routine down (so do I)
1) alarm rings at 5:45 am
2)hits snooze
3) alarm rings again and he shoots out of bed
4) goes to bathroom and blows his nose so loudly that you'd think a foghorn had just gone off in the bathroom
5) brushes his teeth and gargles about 20 times. I can hear the spit as it hits the sink.
6) comes back into bedroom and rummages around in the dark for his clothes (this I have to appreciate because he has to get dressed in the dark and doesn't turn on the light).
In your case though, I would say that the snoozing is out of hand!!!! Have you tried talking with him about it? Maybe let him hit snooze once and then after that take control of that alarm clock and make him get up!!!! Easier said than done I know but you're gonna go nuts if he keeps this up and it'll only get worse when you move in together. There's gotta be a happy compromise.
