For brides with out of towner guests who want to visit NYC

If anyone has out of towner guests who want to visit NYC, there's a good website for events, info, etc - www.nycvisit.com
They publish guide books too which can be purchased (I think one of the books are free but check the site). And they put out little pocket fold up subway maps that are handy - better than pulling out one of those big folding maps that scream 'I am a tourist' =)
I called the 800 number (1-800-nyc-visit) and listened to the machine. To purchase maps you press 1 and then you press another number if you are an individual looking to purchase maps (as opposed to being a business or a travel agent). I spoke to a nice woman that told me the maps are sold by bundles of 25 and they are $4.00 + $15.00 shipping and handling. I am buying them for my out of town guests, most have never been to NYC and I think it would help them get around. Thought I would pass along the information.

That's a great idea!

Also, I went to NYC and bought shirts for $2 each. Also, I bought pens and key chains. I'm giving them out as goodie bags. I will also throw in those maps you mentioned! Thanks for the info!

Question? Are any of your guests staying in the City? Is your wedding in LOng Island?

My wedding is in LI but, I think some of guests want to stay in the city, and I was wondering if any of you arranged transportation?

Well, we did a long island wedding because anything we found in westchester was so expensive
(Marriott in Tarrytown wanted $140/plate! ha!) and we are inviting 300 people so we wanted to keep costs down. So we decided Long Island, where I grew up.

Our problem was this: we live in the Bronx and my FH is from Ireland and so alot of his guests are coming over from Ireland. They will most likely rather stay near where he and I live in the Bronx (well, Yonkers) because 1) there's alot of irish bars in that area and 2) it's a very big irish community where we live and many of his friends have friends that live in our neighborhood and they would want to see each other. Plus it's easier to get into the city (Metro North, or subway or express bus) and you don't have the change in Jamaica and you don't have to deal with all the crowds around Penn Station (I'm soooo glad I don't commute from Penn anymore!). If people want to stay in Manhattan, they are more than welcome to but I'm not blocking rooms at any Manhattan hotels.

Someone suggested Peter Pan bus lines. I am also going to call Atlantic Express and Coach USA. There's another place in Yonkers, I forgot their name though.
