I wasn't planning to tip anyone. I am spending so much money as it is!

Its traditional (so our attorney said) so we did. Actually our guy came in at the 11th hour and did the search for us because his co-worker did not show . So he sort of saved the day!

Re: Spin off...How many of you tipped your title writer?

b/c its 'customary' if you do not do it voluntarily a check or cash to them at the end
sometimes if its a refin or a bank doing the closing they just say
FEES
or
MISC FEES
craig had a whole bunch of these
under Fees
I saw 70.00 and knew right away that was a TIP
so you have to tell them upfront or otherwise many banks seem to just take it out of escrow so for e.g. if you were going to get back lets say 1200.00 you might only get 1100.00 or 1125.00

exactly how I felt Lisa - our lawyer explained it similar to tammy and we just did it - we were like what the heck - it's only an extra XYZ and then after tipping everyone at the wedding not long before what is one more person! LOL

so wrong and sooo misleading! i'm glad i checked with my lawyer or i would have double paid them!

sometimes MISC Fees are for photocopying etc.....
but usually a 75.00 one is a tip if the papers are prepared before the closing

Tips are required by a few of the folks at your closing. Both of my parents are in mortaging and told me 'you don't want your title put in the bottom of a pile someplace, tip the women and it will get filed promptly' so I highly suggest that you tips those that require it. Sometimes it is put into your bill though so double check ALL charges.

what's the disadvantage of not getting your title right away?

how can someone 'require' a tip? I don't get it...do they get paid less than min wage?

Re: Spin off...How many of you tipped your title writer?

I can't believe that they would include it as 'fees' What if you double tip?? That's extremely deceiving

Re: Spin off...How many of you tipped your title writer?

Our lawyer advised us to tip him $100, which we did, but later found out that no one else we know did it.

I'm glad some of you did too... now I don't feel like such a schmuck. I thought our lawyer (who we did NOT love) screwed us.

i have never heard of this. our attorney never said anything about it & i can't remember if we were charged any fees.

tip him like he's a waiter?! who came up with this idea?!

I just find this so corrupt...'If you don't tip me...then I won't do my work in a timely manner?'

maybe people who are involved can explain it a better way...
