Congratulaions and welcome to Candace Mussenden and Oneil Smiley and their respective families: Carmen Greene and Oswald Mussenden; and Norma andj Calvin Smiley.
The two: A Teacher and a Sales Associate, both from Brooklyn were engaged on July 19, 2007 at Pieces Restaurant in Barbados.
'The entire proposal (including his plans to do so) was all a suprise to me. We were on vacation in the beautiful island of Barbados. From the moment we landed, Oneil insisted on us doing fine dining one evening and I got to pick that date. I wasn't suprise at his idea for fine dining because he has always (in the most recent years (smile)) been the sweetest person alive! I chose his birthday (July, 19th). When I woke up that morning, Oneil was nowhere to be seen; I assumed he went for a jog, so I went back to sleep. He came back about two hours later with a vase with some beautiful white roses and lilies, which he gave to me. Later that evening, he insists that I wore the best outfit that I packed and coached me on what looked good and what did not. On our way out of the hotel room, he pulled out a stem of the rose out of the vase and gave it to me; he also took one for himself. He broke the rose off its stem and put it into his pocket. At Pieces Restaurant, while waiting for our dinner to arrive, Oneil picked up the stem of rose he gave me (which was layed out on the table) and began plucking it with the words 'she loves me, she loves me not.' When he was finished, he took his rose out of his pocket and gave it to me to repeat what he had done with mine. While uttering the words, 'he loves me, he loves me not,' I saw a ring fell out of the rose. I reminded myself that I was not wearig a ring. When I looked at the ring, my heart began pumping three times as much blood. He took the ring and asked me to marry him; when I said yes, he placed it on my finger. It was the most romantic event of my life thus far. Oh, yes, I cried!!! Tears of Joy. '
They look forward to a July 2009 celebration.
We wish them all the best.
