Leigh and Jimmy

Leigh & Jimmy

Monday, December 27, 2010

We are happy to welcome to our online family Leigh and Jimmy. The two teachers from New Hyde Park and Valley Stream respectivley were engaged on December 27, 2010 at King Umberto's in Elmont. The week before Christmas he said he got a gift card to this place called King Umbertos (his family has gone here for every occassion since he was born, they sit in a special booth in the back and know the owners - we went here alone for our 1month anniv, and have been there since with his family). So he asked if I wanted to go sometime during the week after Christmas because we had free wine certificates and a gift card. I said sure, but I was working Tuesday and Thursday night so we would have to do Monday or Wednesday...and since Wednesday is my parents' anniversary and my dad's birthday I thought Monday would be better. So there is a blizzard. I'm thinking it's not safe to go out, but then his brother said the roads were not too bad, and that he was sure the resturaunt would be open. So fine, then Jimmy asks me if I want his parents to drive us, and I said no because he should be responsible enough to drive, otherwise we can go Wed. Well now he doesn't want to go wednesday. So then he said that it's because his parents have to turn his dad's car in next month and with the weather and the holidays they don't want anything to happen, plus they are going out anyway. So I cave and say fine we can go out, turns out his brother comes home early so Jimmy takes his car, picks me up and off we go. Well the roads were not awesome, and I kept thinking that we were seriously going to die. I then asked 'what was so important that we had to come out during a blizzard to go to dinner' and 'of all the nights for your parents to go out, why on earth would they pick tonight.' He really didn't comment, so I left it alone. So we finally park and get to King Umbertos, go in (there is no one there pretty much), we sit in the booth his family sits in (mind you it fits 6 ppl and we were 2, and could have sat anywhere). We ordered food and wine (using our wine certificate), and when I was done eating... He said 'you know how much I love you, right?' I said 'yes' He said 'you wanted to know why we came here tonight' I said 'yes (long pause) why did he come here tonight' He said 'I have a question...will you marry me' So now I'm gasping and crying and my hands are covering my mouth, so then I nodded and said 'yes! yes!' and then I switched my one ring to my right hand so I could put it on, and then I kept smiling and cryng and hugging him. You could here the other people 'oh she looks so happy, awww'...it was really nice. Then the waiter came back and congratulated us, and asked if we wanted dessert...well I was so excited that I couldn't read the menu, so I asked if what I usually got was there and they said yes, so I ordered sorbet and Jimmy ordered tartufo. They brought out the tartufo with two candles, and wrote congratulations on the plate. They gave us really nice dessert wine, and took our picture (digital polaroid) and put it in a little frame for us. Then I called everyone, and he got the bill. I reminded him of the gift card, and he said there wasn't one, and he made it up because he knew I wouldn't go because it would be too expensive. I was really glad I didn't order the $30 meal. His parents picked us up and brought us to their house, and then my parents came over and we all had champagne. It was really great. They look forward to a July 15, 2012 at Somerley Suit at Fox Hollow
